Time for AP?

As I get older, I find myself not spending enough time with each watch in my collection. So I am thinking to trade a couple or maybe 3 for a AP RO or ROO.
I understand many of you also have RO and/or ROO in your watch collection, and I was wondering if I can get your opinions on the move? Any of you regret picking up RO or ROO?

Thinking to get rid of the Daytona and one sub for AP.

My collection
116710LN
116610LN
16610LV
116520 White (Wife has Black)
PAM 312 (Gift from wife)
116400 White (Wife has GV)

Sounds good.
Personally I’d move the 116610, 116400, and 116520 or any combo like that. Should give you plenty of room for a hell of an AP

I always end up going back to Rolex. Maybe its that for the money I’d rather have multiple watches or maybe it’s simply that I find Rolex to be less of a headache. In 4 AP models I had issues with 3 of them.

I really like AP a lot and I’m not saying I won’t get another, but for the money, for let’s say a ROC, I’d rather have a PM Daytona.

I have 2 AP's, a blue 15300 and ROO Rubberclad, wife has a mid size ROO as well. They are in a different league from Rolex, which I have 3 of as well. Do it and without hesitation.

Which AP are you eyeballing?

Not looking to get something too fancy. Just a basic ROO like elephant or light coler dial RO.

I would do it for sure. The elephant is a nice ROO, like that one a lot! They are pretty big at 42mm but for casual, I think they are great, this coming from a guy with a 7" wrist. However, if you are looking for something more versatile, I personally think they are hard to wear in business dress. Just too big/tall. Why I got the 15300 later.... originally bought a 15400 and felt that was still too big at 41mm and sold it when I got the blue 15300. So size is something to factor in.

As to the comment above about service. We have had a couple of issues with our ROO's early on but AP in Clearwater was excellent in getting them repaired and back to us quickly. So while it was a small pain in the ass, they handled it very well and haven't had an issue since with them. I would buy another AP in a heartbeat.

Absolutely. Always fun to try a new brand, and I love AP.

Not me. No love for AP. It's never been my style, and the prices for APs are crazy. But even if they were priced like Times watches, I'd never want one.

If I were the OP I'd look at Omega Speedmasters before I went with AP. Of course I'm a huge Speedmaster fanboy though. :)

Yes its time for AP. You need the experience imho.
I would choose a RO 15400 for the beginning. My favorite is the 15202.

I'd suggest looking at a Nautilus or Aquanaut if you are going for a piece de resistance.

I personally would say the keep the Daytona as the ROO is not really much of an upgrade, and cost a lot more.

Yeah, I would strongly disagree with that. You hold a Daytona and a ROO in each hand and you can tell immediately the finish difference, not to mention how much more solid the ROO is.

Agree on a Nautilus but certainly not an Aquanaut. 5711/5712 are killer pieces but then you are talking even more money, especially right now with the prices where they are. Impossible to get one new from an AD as well.

Well, I'm not a Daytona fan, so you don't have to convince me on that. My only point is the RO is not enough to justify the price difference imo. And the RO is a common watch as you note you need to go with something like the Patek to get an exclusive watch.

Not trying to dissuade the OP at all, just offering perspective. The Daytona and RO are basically the same in ubiquity, might be worth lookong for something a little more exclusive if you are gonna take the plunge.

I’d go for it! AP ownership is a fantastic experience. Id recommend the 15202 if you want a classic watch (which would fit into your collection nicely IMO), or if you want a really sporty watch like an offshore, go big or go home — 44 Ti or Ceramic. I actually find that the 44’s wear better than the 42’s but I realize that’s personal preference :>

AP ownership sounds like Alfa Romeo ownership in the car world. It will end in tears but you have to do it at least once in your lifetime

I've never regretted any of my AP purchases. I do always come back to Rolex though.
I'd go for it as long as you still have Rolex in your collection (which you would).
Have a look at the 15202 Jumbo. Their most iconic reference. You'll find that the finishing and details on AP is second to none.

i think the finishing of AP is in a different league but in my experience rolex is a better timekeeper and more reliable.

Love my AP RO 3 1/2 years later. Sold a Z series SD and added cash for it and don’t regret it at all.

Sure why not? Always good to try something new. Having said that I’d keep the Daytona and move something else.

I purchased my first AP last year, and would recommend it 100 percent. The finishing of the AP is amazing and I have yet to run into any issues(knock on wood). I'd say go for it.

Just got one 2 weeks ago. Awesome watch. I just keep all my Rolexes, I will gift it to my nieces when they graduate colleges.

Nothing but praise for AP. I say do it!

They're going a little silly with colors now on the new Divers and ROOs, so I vote stick to the classic 15300/15202 or go ROC. Definitely a step up compared to Rolex!

AP is in a different league. I would recommend looking at the new ROO 42 with the ceramic bezel.

Those new ROO's are VERY tempting. Well done by AP with many of them.
