Airline damaged my new lv suitcase..
So I checked in my brand new louis vuitton rolling luggage bag with a cover on it from las vegas to california. As i was waiting to pick up the luggage, i saw my suitcase without the cover. I grabbed it and double checked the name tag just to make sure it wasnt someone elses and yes it was mine.. there were scratches everywhere the cover was just completely missing and a piece that was screwed on near the rolling wheel completely torn off. i made a claim at the airport and now waiting on a reply. Has this ever happened to anyone?

They lost my luggage before I got paid 2,200. Compensation all depends on the airline. Some credit card companies will also take care of the bill.

Your first mistake was checking LV luggage. The value of the bag (empty) is probably far beyond what they will reimburse.
Unfortunately with the way baggage handling abuses bags, they really need to be plastic wrapped several times |

My LV roller is always a carry on. On the other hand my Tumi roller is always a check in. Never check in your expensive luggage as it gets destroyed.

I feel your pain. I’m afraid you can’t check good luggage unless it was designed for the gorilla in that old luggage commercial. My Tumi hard side has done very well, but it was designed with gorillas in mind.

However I can sympathise with you as I have a LV rolling carry-on that on one flight from New Zealand they made me check it in. Out the other end, it was scratched up and marked... Damn LV case cost me $4K but my business partner at the time insisted we get one each The stupid case weighs 7kg empty with a 10kg carry on limit I now spend more money on watches

That's so frustrating, sorry they let that happen. Hopefully you get this resolved quickly.

Of course they did. It’s what they do. My travel luggage is always something cheap, as they are guaranteed to break wheels and handles off while throwing it as hard as possible.

Sorry man but you pretty much signed up for that. Unless you fly private, don't be handing off LV luggage

I have had 2 suit cases replaced by an airline bacause they were drenched by someone else's leaking case of olive oil.
They were going to clean it but can't, hence free replacement. I was flying business and they were only Samsonite. I doubt they'll cover LV. GL. And my personal rule of thumb is I never check anything that is irreplaceable. They toss luggage around like garbage IMO. |

In US, you can't depend on wrapping checked bags in plastic since TSA may need to open it. Best to spend money on watches like Steve said

Everytime I fly, my luggage gets a new scratch or scuff, not that I care, its just something to hold stuff...I kind of thought its to be expected? I dont think an airport or airline should be responsible for scratches on fancy luggage...that seems pretty unreasonable.

Sorry to hear the bad news... I work for the airlines and every time I see someone with LV luggage or other nice bags checked I just ask myself why... Either they do not care or they are unaware of what is going to happen...

If airports or airlines had to pay for damage to expensive luggage flying would be a lot more expensive.

The Montreal Convention is the statute (US have acceded in 2003) that sets out the limits for compensation for - among others - damage to luggage.
These limits are expressed in Special Drawing Rights (SDR). The limits for damage to luggage are 1,131 SDRs. Each SDR is just under 1.5 USD. There have been cases where airliners have paid more as a gesture of goodwill. What is the value of the LV? |

We travel quite a bit and buy sturdy luggage. Well traveled bags only last 3 or 4 years and seldom make it through a flight without noticeable travel-scars.

Larry, have a look at Briggs & Riley my friend. They'll be the last ones you'll ever buy. They last a lifetime and if not they'll replace or repair for free, for ever. Period.

I only carry on my LV luggage. I have some nice Briggs and Riley stuff that I’ll check. They are pretty tough and B&R has a lifetime warranty against damage so I figure I’ll get reimbursed from someone.
Hope they make it right for you. |

I travel quite a lot. Dropping $350 on my Briggs & Riley bag seemed questionable knowing what those things go through. 10x that seems... well, I wouldn't do it.
