Why doesn’t rolex put the raised crown on all it’s dials?

I love the raised crown on my DJ41. I think it would look beautiful on the sub and gmt rather than “painted” crow on the dial
What do you guys prefer?

I think raised looks great on the dressy ones like DJ, Sky-dweller whereas painted is just fine on the sportier GMTs, Subs, Sea Dwellers. It would be interesting if someone to photoshoped a Sub with a raised crown though.

The painted crown on the Sub is smaller than the applied crown on the DJ, so there isn't enough room to use the DJ crown. Of course, Rolex could make a smaller applied crown for the Sub, but I think it would look cluttered underneath the large triangle. The applied crown is great on the dressier models. It's hard to vote in the poll, because it's asking for an absolute preference, and my preference is dependent on the model.

Exactly and it’s a sporty watch! Makes it look great and I feel gives more richness to the watch!

I have wondered why Rolex is still painting their logo on dials. My guess would be to keep the clutter down on the sport models that are better served to have a luminous marker at the 12 o’clock position.

You can have a raised crown or a luminous marker. To have both would be a cluttered mess IMO

And to just have the rasied crown on a Sub in place of the 12 o'clock marker like a Daytona?

I'll just leave this here and see what you all think.

With a smaller crown I think it would look nice and not clustered at all. With the same size crown but raised!

Why stop with the crown? Omega has applied indices (and numerals), logo and brand name on the Planet Ocean.

But that's a 43/44mm piece vs. 40mm for the Rolexes discussed here.

That's the latest PO in 39.5 mm.

Actually, yeah, it does. I guess I'm agnostic on the issue. I think that PO looks good, but I never look at my Sub and think, "This thing really needs an applied crown and brand logo." I still think with the large triangle on the Sub, it runs the risk of looking cluttered with applied brand markers, but I'll reserve judgment until such a time as I actually see one in person, if it should ever happen.

Good visual....and I prefer the way it is, even if a smaller crown was used.

So...would you describe that Sub’s dial with the the raised crown as Satin or Glossy?

I'm guessing it's painted on the dials of Rolex Professional watches because an applied one may come loose and cause the watch to malfunction. The Speedmaster Pro came with an applied logo until 1968, and I believe one of the reasons for the switch to a painted logo in 1969 was to satisfy a request from NASA, who had recently qualified the watch for use on missions.

Yeah, I like it on the dressier stuff...even on the OP it looks nice as it's a relatively simple watch so the applied crown adds a little something which is cool.

But not on the professional models. I wish I could get a sub with painted markers still...and lug holes.
