Time between purchases
Hello All. I was wondering what the time period was between your first Rolex purchase and then your second Rolex. There is no right answer, but I am curious how people respond. Was it right away? Did you wait years? Did you wait for a significant life event? Did you sell your first one first?
I am now about a month into my first Rolex. For whatever reason, I really want to purchase another one but I have been fighting it. I feel like I have not fully "gotten to know" my first one yet and I should enjoy it first. That said, The Color of Money was on TV earlier and I must say that DateJust with the white dial and jubilee bracelet on Newman's wrist kept catching my eye. Again, there is no correct answer and I am not looking for help deciding. I am just curious the path others went down. Thanks. |

First BLNR then had the itch soon after for a second one. Took me good four months to find and buy LVc.

Of course there's a right answer...the truth. It's an objective question.

My first was handed down from my grandfather when he passed in 2000 ('54 DJ) Bought my first watch (DJ36) in March of 2008. Turns out I was allergic and had to scratch that itch. I bought my second in March of 2008 (16600). I didn't buy another until 2012 and averaged one a year until 2016 where I have averaged about 3 or 4 a year. Already off to 2 this year. I blame TRF for all of this.

I purchased my first on Tuesday (abet not for my wrist...present for wife). Put myself on a list on Thursday. Have not decided if I want to get an impulse purchase while I waste away on the list or not. May gray market something next week as I wait.
That said, I have an addictive personality. I tend to over focus on things. |

Time between purchases
Purchased my first a Daytona in September 2015. I thought that was it I had got a Rolex.
Then I joined TFR, purchased a Sub date in October 2016 and a few others to date. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Enjoy your first one for a couple of years before cheating with a second one.

Bought my first in August 99 a 16700 which I still have , & bought and sold lots more along the way, whenever a watch caught my eye or until I could afford to buy it . Just buy what you like when you like, it's all part of the Watch journey .

I purchased my first Rolex in 2006. I purchased my 2nd about 7 months later. I sold both during a time that I was obsessed with Panerai and didn't buy another Rolex until 2011.

Rolex says the proper time to wait is one year after you acquire two as they won't allow any subsequent purchases. In the UK at least. Sort of takes the proper interval out of your hands.

I bought my second (Explorer 114270) two years after my Sub. Then a Speedmaster a year after the Explorer. The hunt is part of the fun and, to me, these are not impulse purchases so I take my time researching. I haven't bought anything in a year and have nothing planned - yet.

7-8 years. But other (non Rolex) stuff was purchased in between.
Over the years I've found that I will go a while (months/years) without buying anything but then 80-90% of the time multiple purchases come in quick succession. |

There's no right answer. But...I will tell you from prior experience, if you don't take some time to enjoy your first purchase and appreciate all the subtle details of the watch...you'll be sorry.
Slow your roll, my brother. |
