Should I take the Daytona or cash?

A business partner owes me money and recently went to pawn his rose gold Daytona to pay me back. The pawn shop offering 17,250USD for the watch below with no box or papers.

I have the option to take cash or watch? Which one should I go for? Condition looks mint.

Depends how much you need the money........ if you’re not desperate for the cash,go for the Daytona,it maybe something you wouldn’t normally buy!

Take the cash and buy a watch you would have picked yourself if you actually even want a watch to begin with.

Cash! Unless you can sell it for more that what he was offered and more than we he owes you, then I would take the watch flip it, take my share and give him back the rest.

Sounds like a risky partner tho! Such a watch and is in a debt he can’t pay off.

Watchfinder are selling them for 17-19k sterling. Clearly you’d need to shave a couple thousand or more selling to them but it still sounds like you ought to be able to flip for more than 17.5k US assuming the transaction is taking place in Blighty. I’d always bet on WF to offer a better price than a random pawnbroker. You could use their website to generate an estimate of what they would buy it off you for?

It depends on what he owes you. With no box or papers I would be cautious. Send a few Trusted Sellers a note and see where you are. If they will do better, send them the watch. Your trade value will be much better than a cash out. Pick a watch or watches you want and trade. Better than a low sell.

Agree, first do you really want it knowing it is worth maybe 13 to 14k. Obviously he's trying to 'sell you' a Rolex at retail, when you should be thinking wholesale (14k). But FIRST, no box no papers means he needs to get it aauthenticated and you should call Rolex to see if it was stolen. A newish Rolex like that with no box or papers is ..... curious... and raises questions. It also lowers value.

If you choose watch, photocopy his ID, and have him sign a legal document saying the watch is his, to the best of his knowledge not stolen, etc. This way you have legal recourse against him in case of....

If you don't want the watch no matter the price, then cash.

Jmho.

No papers?

...I'd take the cash.

Take the cash. I don’t think you can get the $17k for it and it will be very hard to move

Shoot me if I ever partner with someone who needs to 'pawn' a watch to pay me back.

As my daddy always said “son, you can always take a man’s cash but never take his Rolex!”. Just not good form. Well maybe he didn’t say that but take the cash anyway!!!

Hahah, too funny. I too, would take cash. Don’t like owning pieces without box/papers.

Cash is king. Plus, i would feel very awkward taking and wearing my partners watch, feels off. Also, why hassle trying to inch out a few more dollars for a piece without box and papers... could lose time and money.

Highly doubt a pawnshop would offer $17,250, no papers. Maybe he wants you to take it for that amount. I'd take the cash.

Rick, after he calls in an expert, might offer $12k lol

Seems like a lot for a Pawn Shop on this one but it is the UK. I’d take the money. If selling on your own you may be able to get 20ish but this wouldn’t be an easy one to sell with not much selling history and it’s not one everybody wants. If you sell to a re-sellers and it’s complete I’m guessing you will get 16-17. Take the green!
