I feel that the SD4000c will eventually

become one of the most sought after Rolex’s ever! It’s such a special watch! Prices are climbing and eventually they’ll become harder to find.

I agree. I’m so angry at myself for not getting one before prices started going up.

Saw one in the flesh a while back when on holiday - considered flipping a deapsea I had at the time, Watchfinder were happy for a straight(ish) swap on one as at that time they had a few and no one seemed to want them - fast forward to now they’ve been discontinued and I regret passing on the dea and not because they are fetching a premium, I truly believe Rolex had the size and proportions right with this model.

Never mind - I’ve flipped loads I regret -stupid hobby always fancying a change !!!

Love the watch but just not the endlinks. It bothers me that the endlinks are not flush with the watch. Kinda seems like they half assed that part.

I love my 116600, but you're right. I wish the end links were flush. I wonder why they designed them like that?

Because they wanted to.
Just the same as they did with the DSSD, the YM and Pearlmaster.
In ways it gives a more rounded look to the watch in Plan view and in some ways when viewed in Profile.

Rolex use this type of end link due to size/weight of the watch, to be more balanced on your wrist.

SD4000 will probably be the last of the SD in 40mm. I'm glad I got mine before it was discontinued.

I feel this one will be highly sought after too. Quite a transitional piece and final run for this size

I agree it’s a reach.

Especially considering there has been other transitional Rolex (gmt 16750 or even sub 168000) from the past that still hasn’t reached highly collectible status, yet

However, the small number produced/sold will eventually effect the collectability/value

Those are not so great examples heh.....the matte 16750/16800 are going nuts right now in the marketplace (for obvious reasons) being the true transitionals.

I don't really have hopes of the SD4k being the next 4 digit Daytona but I think it's pretty safe that the value will steadily edge up simply due to availability.

Ditto! SDc seems to be in no mans land... it's neither dramatic enough (e.g., nothing really stands out like the DSSD, SD43, etc), nor "romantic" enough (e.g., no known associations with COMEX anymore unlike its predecessor).

Of course, it might be sought after by those who want the form factor of a modern Submariner without the cyclops (a minority unfortunately), but far from being the most sought after...

Hmmm, most sought after ever???? Somehow I doubt that. Due to its limited production I'm sure there will always be a market for it, but it wasn't all that popular when it was produced. Most people couldn't tell it apart from a Sub, hence it's lack of sales and discontinuation.

Give it a little more time and watch how it slowly rises. Humans always want what they can’t have. The harder these become to find the higher the demand.

I don't think it was much sought after when it was current. It's interesting how all of a sudden it's in demand. Do many people buying it now actually like the watch, or is it just people speculating on some kind of future value?

It's funny how the sd4k gets flack for its endlinks. Majority of the Rolex models do not have endlinks that sit flush with the lugs.

Besides that, there isn't a single owner of the watch that notices or cares. It seems the complaint when selling is due to the thickness compared to the sub.

They look the same?

People need to find something always to hate on.

For me it's the best modern diver Rolex has made (I am biased especially since I got a smaller wrist). Was enjoying this one yesterday actually.

I personally think for my tastes, the SD4K is near perfect. The size, the matte dial, the bezel reminiscent of the mil sub, no cyclops, and the more tapered lugs than the sub, all lead me to that conclusion. The endlinks were supposedly done on purpose on this piece and the deepsea to better accommodate a wetsuit.

100% this ^^^

on the gray market, you're looking at something similar to these, decently used, from what I have seen on average, lately:

SubC date - high $7k
black DSSD - high $8k/low $9k
SD4K - low $10k (a rare one will come up now and then in the mid to high 9's)
SD43 - mid $12k
DSSD deep blue - - high $12k to low $13k

try to find value in those prices..they seem to keep creeping up. for someone that isn't built for a sub and want something more substantial, SD4K and bigger options are the only way to go without spending 20% more
