Q: Sell Pepsi 16710 to buy BLNR?

I think I know what the consensus viewpoint well be, but here goes ...

I want a 3-watch collection. 1 GMT. 1 Chrono. 1 Diver.

Chrono. I have 2 Vacheron Overseas Chronos - both purchased new in 2016 and prior generation to the one currently being sold. I will sell the white one and keep the blue one. I like the white one. I love the blue one.

Diver. I am going to pick up an SD43 when I fly back to the U.S. next month.

GMT. I also have a Y-series Pepsi 16710 that I bought new about 15 years ago. It's in great shape. All papers (even the hand tag and receipt) and box. Serviced on time always, including under 2 years ago. Great watch. I have loved it.

I am thinking about selling the Pepsi to get a new BLNR. Rationale - new reference, new movement, better bracelet, somewhat larger and heavier. I am in love with the Pepsi and the colors. I am in love with the BLNR and the colors and have been since it came out.

I don't want to have 4 watches or 2 GMTs. So keeping the Pepsi and buying the BLNR is not an option.

Thoughts?

absolutely not. Watch preferences vary and some may prefer one or the other, but just based on the history you have with the watch and nothing else, there is no way i would do that.

They’re both very nice for different reasons. I could see either bring the GMT of choice. I think it just depends on which you prefer. Lots of nice upgrades with the BLNR. The Pepsi has a charm all of it’s own though. I have the BLNR and I’m really thinking about picking up a coke or Pepsi.

I have a BLNR. But want to add a Vintage BLRO. If I owned one from new like you have I would be hard pressed to let it go.

No. Vintage Pepsi is becoming more and more in demand. I suspect BLNR will be around for a while and generally available. Good condition Pepsi becoming harder to find.

I'd keep the Pepsi.

15 years of your personal experiences are with the Pepsi! A true heirloom piece.

another No!l
Going forward there’ll always be nice BLNRs available, as everyone seems to be babying their Rolex these days...finding another Pepsi as nice and meaningful will be hard

I would not either . Keep the Pepsi, it’s iconic!!!
Maybe you don’t want to hear this but I’d add the BLNR
and flip both of your VC’s... but then , I’m not a VC fan...
Only you can make the final decision... Good luck ...

Note: just remembered you want to keep your Chrono.
I’d still keep the Pepsi and add the BLNR later when funds permit.

I'd hang on to the Pepsi. Especially that you are the original owner. The SD43 packs all of the modern perks you will need.

I agree with Travis.

Now, alternatively, what you may want to consider is putting a 6 digit bracelet with either glide lock or easy link on the 16710. Then you have the best of both worlds.

I much prefer the six digits. To me the BLNR is better in many ways. So if I had to have just one it would be the 116710. That said I do like the 16710s and they’re not making them any longer. In your shoes I’d keep it and save for however long it took and then get the BLNR.

No. The Pepsi is only going to go up in value, especially if the BLRO is discontinued.

Not only that, it’s iconic.

I wouldn’t do it.

You'll go from a rolex ICON to a possibly quite faddy and trendy watch. Absolutely not. Five digit is king, and you've had it since new. Keep it in the safe and buy a BLNR if you have to.

No way. 16710 Pepsi is a classic. Can always add a BLNR if you really crave it later. But to get a Pepsi later that is in good condition may not be so easy or will cost you a whole lot of dough. So I’d be very happy to keep the Pepsi.

I think that you will regret selling the Pepsi.

There's nothing wrong with owning four or more watches, I currently think that the correct number is eight.

The six-digit GMTs are an improvement in almost every way over the older five-digit models. As much as I love the BLNR, I think you will eventually regret selling your 16710. Hold onto it.
