Datejust 41 vs Sub
Hi, new to this thread. Don't know much about watches, but have been doing my research for the past few months and met with some rolex dealers. Planning to get one for my fiance as a wedding/30th gift but torn between the:
Datejust 41 two tone with the champagne dial or the Sub two tone with the blue dial. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

First of all, welcome to TRF!
I would recommend the TT blue sub of the two you mentioned. The bluesy is such a beautiful watch. DJ is a great watch but the sub he can take diving and snorkeling. My wife bought me a TT Daytona for my wedding gift! He will b stoked. BTW, most on here don't like TT watches. |

Both are great watches. I own the sub and my wife has the 2 tone datejust. I find the datejust can be worn daily and as well for formal occasions with the exception of black tie/black suit. The same goes for the sub two tone but you might have just a little harder time matching the watch with clothes due to its blue face (that's just me though)
One thing with the choice of the blue 2 tone sub is that you'll see less of them around on other people. I do often see steel subs as well as 2 tone datejusts on people. Tough choice... my vote goes to the 2 tone sub blue face |

The question is, can she pull off that big of a watch? I would consider a Datejust 31 as a much more sensible and elegant option:

For fiancée I'd go DJ41 and TT chocolate dial, bet she will love it.

That's as harsh a criticism of the new DJ41 as I have read. I'm not a big fan either, I love my classic 36mm, but I don't think the proportions are all that out of whack, more tapered bezel than the DJII.

Really? I don't think Rolex is trying to compete with Michael Kors.

I second this.
If you think about it, none of the Rolex watches have even proportions. Even the Sub is "disproportionate." Just look at the hands vs the hour markers. Different sizes, shapes, etc. Yet, it is arguably the most iconic watch in the world. I guess we should all throw away our disproportionate Rolex watches. Especially our watches > 36mm because this has got to be the decade, not the past two decades, that "the big watch trend" will finally end lol |

As I read the first few posts, I thought some people were a bit presumptuous; glad you cleared that up.
I am indifferent on DJ41 and if the Sub I'd go with the black dial. Have fun deciding, it won't be easy!!
