Good or Bad Idea?

I lately have this STRONG urge to flip my 116610ln for a 126334 black stick jubilee. The proportions are perfect on the DJ (and though I love the sub, the it’s proportions are a strong debate.

I honestly can only have one or other.

Most watch people say the sub will hold better value. I don’t care about that as it is not a tangible rational. But the sub is a great (maybe perfect watch).

Thoughts? Hold sub and appreciate what I have, or move on to DJ41?

Don't do it! The 126334 is beautiful but the Sub is perfect.

You should go with the one you want to wear the most

That being said .... if only one ?
It’d have to be a Sub Date for me ....
way more versatile than a DJ, not that the
DJ can’t be an all in one... Good luck

I'd hold onto the Sub and then get a DJ a year or 2 in the future. A Sub and a DJ are a winning combination.

I have a Sub now, and I think I might target a DJ a year from now.

In another thread, someone just posted a picture of a black dial sub and a white dial DJ. That was a powerful influence on me. They go perfect together, and now I want that combination.

That is sort of my collection (Sub and GS Snowflake).

Sounds like I should prob flip the snowflake (gets 0 wrist time) and save a bit for the DJ white or teak.

Or... might flip snowflake for Exp1, and save for DJ41. Great 3 watch combo.

For now I’ll hang on to sub.

Thanks all for the responses so far!

This is the answer! Don’t sell your sub you’ll only regret it. Good luck

I wouldn't flip the Sub. It's a more versatile watch if you're only going to have one. I'd keep it and add a DJ in the future.

If you like the DJ better and plan to have one watch for a long while, then nothing wrong to flip it. Although the sub holds the value better, it is due to an update at anytime. If you like the new one you can always buy it in the future. It will require a few years of waiting with today's circumstances anyway so you will have plenty of time to think about that while enjoying the DJ you like for now.

You would likely miss the sporty look of the sub.

Both are Rolex icons. Its a style question rather that what is more popular. If the DJ fits your style better, go for it. It has alot more bling on the wrist with the fluted bezel than the black Sub does so if you want more flash and sparkle out of your Rolex, there is no contest between the two. Both style of Rolex watches are everywhere so you wont gain any "originality points" with either.

If you think this, what is behind the desire to trade it? Sometimes trading makes sense, like when you really just don't feel the love anymore for a given piece. But sometimes the urge to flip is like chasing the dragon: it's a fleeting reward because the satisfaction is based on the thrill of acquiring something new, trying to replicate the feeling you got when you bought the watch you're now flipping. Once that's over, the thrill is gone, and then you find yourself wanting to flip again.

More to the point, if you really do think the Sub is approaching perfection, I would say you're better off holding onto it, since it's unlikely anything with which you replace it will satisfy you as much in the long run. Then see if you can add the DJ down the road.

Edit: I see you reached the same conclusion. It makes way more sense to flip the GS, since you're not wearing it. Explorer or DJ both would make great additions to the collection.

Keep the Sub, unless the DJ is an absolute gotta have. I’ve always found the Sub to be the most versatile Rolex. Save for the DJ as you may likely regret flipping the Sub.

I agree with others that say keep the Submariner and add the Datejust later down the line if possible. I have a GMTIIc and a DJ36 on jubilee and I enjoy being able to alternate between the two since they are so different.

Of course if you are a one watch kind of person then you should simply go with the one you would prefer to wear every day.
