ss dd
Heard from a solid source that a white dial ss DD is dropping @ Basel this year, as well as a ss Pepsi GMT II.
Several DD-owning friends said there's no way Rolex would drop one in ss, but I don't see why not, seeing as they've done similar things with other references, such as the Sky-D. Do you guys think an ss version of the venerable classic would become the most popular? |

Not a chance in Hades. Day Date is Rolex' flagship reference and has been and always will be in Precious Metal. Steel would be blasphemy!

no way. The sky dweller is a great watch, but the ultimate aspirational Rolex for most is the DD.... the bracelet is even called the president.
No chance of SS for that. It would totally devalue the concept of the DD. Skydweller is a relatively new watch and isnt an icon and Rolex wanted to boost sales most likely, which is why its in SS. Plus no one really liked the sky dweller anyway when it was in PM, even the WG. Then it came out in steel and all of a sudden everyone thought, "hey Rolex makes a watch called the sky dweller and its awesome" . They don't have that problem with the DD.

As much as I want a DD, I am willing to wait and save for most likely the only PM piece I will down. DD in steel is not in rolex DNA. It just isn’t. Its their flagship. It’s unique because it’s a PM only collection.

I remember last years thread on how the Sky D would never be offered in Stainless. I don't believe the hype regarding a stainless DD but you never know.

thats not what i remember. My recollection was all about people finally realizing its a 42mm watch last year, despite it being released in PM 5 years prior. It was the weirdest thing ever to read all the size related threads.

The one difference is the Sky-D was only a five-year-old model when the SS version came out. I know PM buyers may have felt burned, but it was early enough in the model's history that the lapse between the PM and SS debut could still be seen as a roll-out period for the model, albeit a fairly protracted one. The DD first debuted in 1956, and has only ever been available in PM. If Rolex were to introduce an SS DD, that would be a much bigger about-face from tradition than an SS Sky-D.

Can't see it happening unless PM sales tank, which is what happened with the SkyD, and which was an extra waste when so much went into the movement and command bezel. |

Well so far we have claims of an SS DD, SS pepsi, competely new Sub, SS coke, supreme rolex collaboration.
Wow this is the most rolex has ever done in 1 basel

all we are missing is the super watch combining all of the things we desire in one watch... a SS DD with a divers bezel in red and black... maybe with an OF option.

Don't forget the predicted discontinuation of about half of the sport line, plus the hostile Swatch takeover. We're doomed.
