Please Render An Opinion
Dear Fellow TRF Members:
I have been asked to verify the genuineness of this watch. The buyer insists that it is a fake, the seller insists that it is genuine: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=270295236188 I personally think the watch looks highly suspect. The Day is not centered in the window, the cyclops is not visible enough to verify date magnification, the bezel looks fake, the bracelet buckle does not look correct, the price is way too low, etc. I think it is highly suspect. Please let me know what you think. Terry Newton

I don't think the cyclops is right, it doesn't magnify enough. It should be 2.5x, that looks 1.5x
I am no expert, someone that knows will chime in. |

The hands looks too short and the cyclops magnifier looks too low a power. Looks highly suspicous. I would pass on it.

...authenticity...
...issues.
...first, the buyer should have put it up for discussion here on the forum FIRST, before ever bidding. ...second, the dial is all wrong. ...third, hands are all wrong. ...fourth, the bezel is mostlikely some kind of aftermarket bez. ...it would be nice to know if the ref and SN are present between the lugs. ...also, a pic of the engine would be helpful. ...based upon ONLY the 3 pic's available, my vote: FAULKER. ...ASSUMING it is genuine, the bezel, dial, and hands SHOULD be replaced to make it LOOK GENUINE. Stan. |

well i also think it is fake. the coronet on the dial looks as if it has 5 different sized 'prongs' to it.
The bezel - the listing says enough Als the day does not fit in the window, or at least does not line up right

His description makes note of most of the complaints; he says it was modified and Rolex won't stand behind it.

Not to be pushy (being new here) but I looked at allot on it. 15 feedback and 2 transactions over the since 2004.
If it is real I'd pay someone to take those smokie looking diamonds off of it. No bling to them. Flash didn't even brigthen them up. Hands look like something off an old hamilton or gruen. The screw pins to the band look like the don't fit so they may be original but not fitting the band. (aftermarket?) The crown on the band looks to be off center a bit (to me) The diamonds almost look like they have different mounts on the dial. Especially at 1:00 I could be ignorant but doesn't the gold have a brassy tone What little I know I always email and ask for a name & number on high end watches, if a person will communicate where you can also look them up on 411.com it helps me ease a bit of worries. Just my opinion is all and no way reflects on my weight, age, ignorance nor my preference of women. I like em all:) |

The dial is aftermarket or has been redone.

There is no way to tell if this is a genuine Rolex case without seeing it in person or with much better photos, but there is no question the dial is fake, the hands are fake, the crystal/cyclops is fake, and the bezel is fake. Also, the day wheel does not align with its window (not usually seen on a Rolex).
Best case scenario: highly bastardized genuine Rolex Day-Date, not even worth the selling price. Most likely scenario: Total fake.

At best, 5 ounces of BRASS, 3 grams of plastic and a lot of smoke and mirror use.
Just an awful fake. Does it need a new battery or was that replaced at RSC ???

Thanks for the opinions all. I thought it looked questionable as well. The buyer had actually already paid for and received the watch. He then thought it looked fake and asked that the item be disputed.
I did not want to comment until I received feedback from many different sources. You all have been a tremendous help. Thanks to all of the hard work here we have helped turn many E-Bayers experience in to a positive experience. You all are responsible for helping many from losing their hard earned dollars. I hope this good deed gets us all a higher place in heaven. Terry Newton

the buyer will have to have it authenticated at a reputable jeweler so he has some paperwork to send to paypal..without it they will rule in favor of the seller..

Seller states in the auction ''For this reason Rolex will no longer stand behind the watch as authentic'' So he could use that as a cover up stating that he never garantee authenticity, however i feel bad for the guy, i mean the face looks pretty bad:( Buyer Beware Guys, specially on ebay,, |

Come on a DD for $2,500.... you get what you paid for, sometimes even less
The Dial, Hands, Bezel look fake I hate to be the axe bearer here but how can you authenticate anything without it being in your hands, the pictures leave a lot to be desired. The buyer must have been a little on the dim witted side, lets be honest here a DD / President has 2.408 Troy Oz of 24K actual refined from the 18K case and band, Gold is at $780/oz the scrap value is $1,878.24 the gross weight is almost 100gr (99.86 to be precise) at 18K aka 75% is 75gr there are 31.1gr in a troy oz (gold is sold and spotted in TROY) Assuming the watch case, back, bezel, and bracelet is 18K he paid less than $672 over scrap value (gold only), have a watchmaker open it up, if it is a genuine movement, case, and bracelet it might be better for him to mitigate his losses by scrapping / parting the watch out. The Baguette Diamonds are worth about $125 (rappaport wholesale) a Jeweler could make a cool diamond ring / journey pendant out of the bezel so you might get a few bucks more, Crown and tube is worth $50 if it is clean and in good shape. I open up all Rolex before I buy The seller was fourthright as a layman and noted the aftermarket parts and rightfully scared off the smarter bidders. I don't think PayPal will side with the buyer as the seller let everybody know it was pretty much a junk watch, nice bling for the strip club but thats about it. |

You are 100% correct. The seller was honest about parts being changed .... and the buyer still put a bid in???? Crazy. He received the exact POS watch he bid on. I believe this is a case of inexperienced buyers remorse. |
