Another oddity from Flea Bay a 5513 case with a drilled lug.....

unless this is part of a laser welding practice to build up the over polished / damaged lugs, why the heck drill the lugs ????

only £2500.. if your interested ?

He's referring to the small hole drilled into the chamfer in the 10:00 lug. My guess it's there for a laser-weld repair.

That's my train of thought but just wanted closure, I also wonder how they get the grade of stainless to match, hopefully someone more in the know will chip in,

The 5513 would have used 316L stainless from Sandvik Sweden. It's not hard to match. Rolex didn't start making 904L until much later.

That hole would not be for laser welding, it would actually make it harder to laser weld it.

It reminds me of what you need to do when you have pitting in stainless, you need to drill out the corrosion. But it looks too small and too deep for that.

More information from the seller after I enquired about serial and model numbers, he also sent a follow on e-mail explaining the rarity of the item and I was also asked if id like to make him an offer as he's looking for funds to buy another one

No there isn’t anything else other than what is in the pictures. And no serial numbers are worn away, due to hollow end links.
