If you want to see some eye-popping prices, check out Tony's site: http://www.sdwatches.com/product-cat...rby=price-desc

The (asking )prices on these have gone through the roof

Y’all do realize that Swiss watch brands are seeing 10% to 20% sales growth right?

No, I don't. Growth in new sales? Please elaborate.
I'm under the impression new sales are down.

Growth in sales directly to grey dealers on popular pieces

Same old story.....everyone balks @ the crazy/insane prices greys are selling for. Ask the greys if you're serious and they'll answer with a very simple question of their own.

Where can you find another at this condition? Assuming you can even answer that question, then you can ask about the price.

Then the person serious will understand that the high asking prices are for a reason and eventually cave if they want it bad enough. The rest of the market sees this sale and immediately sets it as the new standard. Rinse and repeat.

No one is evil or manipulating anything. It's just the flow of supply and demand taking its course.

Sorry for my ignorance. What do grey market sellers have to do with pricing for a reference that hasn’t been produced for nearly 10 years?

Because Rolex and it’s AD no longer has them.
Hence, grey sellers will “set” the price for the used one depending on condition and the market demand.
Casual sellers like us will follow the grey market prices for setting sale/purchase price.

The greys ( some are trusted sellers on TRF) list the watch for sale and “set” the price at what they think they can sell for. Regardless of what it’s sold for (which we don’t know), many see the for sale price and if reinforces the rising “value” , especially when demand outpaced supply for these pieces

If you go to the Rolex boutiques in Bangkok they are selling them new for 390,000 baht
Mrrp is 319,000
That’s £1500 more than it should be
