Rolex owners q for you...what to do on AP RO

So my wife and i were shopping yesterday and she apparently secured herself a nice bag, Birkin. In her happiness, we walked into the AP store. I tried on 3 Royal oaks 2 of them were 15400, and one was a 24xxx with complications. I liked the silver dial 15400. This in not the ultra thin one.

She had said I could buy the aP RO 15400 or wait for the daytona c and pepsi

Q for you guys...
1) would you guys buy the RO
2) any views on it holding value?
3) do you own and why have you chosen AP.

I was also at some point hoping for a nautilus 5711

Buy the AP, wait for the Daytona and Pepsi patiently. When the time comes you'll either have enough to buy the others or you can sell the AP and get the other two (+cash)

Not sure the reason for the question...???

1) Buy the AP you like the most. Do this now.

2) Wait for the Daytona and Pepsi GMT (if you need to wait, which you probably shouldn't have to for long I would guess.)

3) Wait for the Patek (will have to wait regardless).

Easy Peasy.

There is a limit to how many watches my wife will let me own...if i buy this , this will be the last watch i buy for a long while. Like a long while. So would probably get off all lists.

Also wanted to get opinions from rolex owners if they liked or disliked thier AP.

Im on the fence

Its an AP, its worth it. And I own 4 Rolex's, 3 AP's..... its just in a different league in my opinion. Rolex does great marketing, hence why a Daytona that retails for 12K sells for 20K on the gray market. Or a SD43 11.3 selling for 14K. A 15400 MSRP is much higher than any of those for a reason.

Get it, you will not regret it. Just make sure you are set on 41mm, that was my only fault a few years back and had to correct that later. It was just too big on my 7" wrist for me. But it was still an awesome watch and if that fits you, do it!

Not an AP owner. But from my recent visit to a boutique and looking at the AP 15400 and 15202. I'd get an AP. It is a different league. More refined and looks awesome. Compared to Rolex the finish it is a lot better and it is worth the money. I am considering an AP 15400 blue dial. The RO dials are unique. The pictures on their site don't do justice. The bracelet shows class. Compared to the jubilee, it is 10 times better.

The design is as simple as it gets. I didn't knew about 15202 abd I rejected it coz it didn't had a second hand!

I think the 41mm fits you actually. The 15300 obviously fits you as well. Was the 400 just uncomfortable?

I would get the AP now. Stay on the list for the Daytona and Pepsi. Get on a 5711 list. as well At the rate things are going, who knows when you will actually get the call. When you do get a call buy them and then decide if you keep them or not. You will most likely make out if you flipped them anyways.

I too have a limit on how many watches my wife allows. I just sell one and buy another. She doesn't need to know the actual dollars involved...

If it's not about the money, then get the AP now. Who knows when the Daytona or the SS Pepsi will become available. Just buy those other two later in the future if/when you are able to get your hands on them.

I’m confused, but was/is the RO on your wish list, or are you second guessing since having tried them on?

I find a hard time contemplating the two brands, AP is way ahead in fit and finish. And I own both.

Only thing with the 15400 to consider is buying at boutique/AD or gray. If you are set on silver, you can get them from an AD at likely a small discount or gray at a decent discount. Also, factor in 15300 at 39mm, which you can get from a TS here at a decent price. Ultra thin (15202) is only blue and you have to get it from boutique or gray at premium, good luck getting one at a boutique these days! 15202 is 39mm as well vs 41mm with the 15400. I had the 15400 in silver and felt it wore to big, sold it and bought 15300 in blue. 7" wrist for reference. As for holding its value...... if you buy a 15400 silver/black at MSRP, you won't get it back. Blue on the other hand... but good luck getting one of those either.

Thanks,... How much is the 15300 going for you think? Also how much do u think i would get hit on buying he 15400.... since you sold yours ? The 15400 was $17,800. I will need to try the 39mm ome. I liked how the 15400 sat but would want to try the 15300. Definitely dont think ill be able to buy the 15202

I think Tranh has a 15300 white and blue for sale now:

White: http://www.takuyawatches.com/product...anty-full-set/

Blue: http://www.takuyawatches.com/product...rare-full-set/

I definitely took a hit on my 15400 but pretty small, I got mine from an AD, not boutique and got a discount. Not sure where the market is on them these days but they are obtainable and that brings the secondary cost down.

Tread slowly then. I’d suggest a cooking of period to re-evaluate what your next target is

If you like the heft of the 41mm I don't think you'll like the 39mm. I had the 39 (blue) but sold it and now I have the 41mm (silver) which imo is amazing.

How long will you have to wait for the others? I think ultimately it's buy what you yourself likes most.

Feel free to ask the AP side of the forums as well to get their thoughts.

Per my decision on the left, I love the 15400 in a silver dial. I would opt for it over the two Rolex’s you chose.

For the 5711, I’m not sure about the reality of getting one... are you already on the list or considering buying the higher priced resales? The reason I ask is if you aren’t on any of the two I won’t consider getting one as an option at this point. If you are already on the list for the 5711 (and on a reasonable timeline/position) then by all means wait for it.

Sadly not on list, so will likely never get one :(
I even debated getting on the aquanaut list

So of the Daytona, Pepsi and 5711, you may as well put your name on the lists and see why happens. If you get the call on any and you decide the watch isn't for you, you will certainly never lose money (and obviously you could make money if you wanted to).

As far as the value of the 15400 I think I paid under 14k for my silver dial, BNIB via trusted seller. Fully warrantied, no issues whatsoever. So if you buy at retail, then the value retention right off the bat will not be good.

If you buy via trusted seller (i'd recommend Takuya), you may lose a little money if you decide to sell it, but it won't be nearly as bad as if you buy directly from an AD.

I know it sounds like a lot of money to lay out to potentially own more than one of the watches you mentioned at the same time, but again, 3 of 4, if purchased for MSRP will make you money should you decide to move them.

So to me it's a no brainer. Buy the 15400 if you like it, and wait for the other three. If they call your name, buy it, own multiple watches simultaneously and decide which you like the best.

btw- the blue dial 15400 plays by a different set of rules. If you can buy that at retail from an AD (and of course you love it), i'd jump on it. The MSRP value retention will be much better than the black or white dials.

My experience is not a guarantee of your situation but I bought mine from TS with warranty in my name for $11,300 4 years ago and I’d definitely profit if I sold it today - not the case if I had purchased from an AD. It’s an amazing piece and one of my favorites in my collection.

Rolex owners q for you...what to do on AP RO

I think the Royal Oak is a notably nicer watch than the 5711. But that’s just my taste and accordingly there will be plenty on here that both agree and disagree. The point is with these two there's definitely no wrong decision, just go for which you prefer.

I would probably take a Rolex over the AP 15400 or Patek 5711 only if you went for a PM Rolex, a SS wouldn’t quite do it for me. But a DD40 or gold Daytona (on bracelet, not oysterflex) for example would be an easy choice for me over the 15400 and definitely the 5711.

For me daytona c + ss pepsi > 15400 so I will wait. I will wait and buy 15202 at msrp if that's an option.

5711 at retail will be long shot. Today even PP vip is in the wait list.

How do the RO bracelets hold up over time? Do they sag like some of the older Rolex bracelets or stay tight/precise?
