OP 39 on NATO . . . didn't think I'd like it.

Recently sold my 116600 Sea-Dweller which put my OP 39 into the 24/7/365 slot. Previously, it was relegated to weekender/dress-up duty. I'd wear it when I just wanted something different and lighter or when I went to church or out on a date with my wife.

The other night, bored and on a whim, I decided to try a NATO band on the watch. Didn't really think they would go together that well. To my surprise I like it!

The simplicity and ruggedness of the NATO seems make the beauty of the polished OP 39 case pop out.

Some will like, some won't. For me it's a nice change.

Interesting but not for me, would probably look good on a grey or black strap with sky blue stitching.

I’d put it on one of these straps. https://monochrome-watches.com/hands...s-and-pricing/

I’m a big fan of nato straps, but that doesn’t work for me. On a matte black or plain white dial maybe, but on that sunburst dial it just seems off.

Also, the strap looks like a thicker “Zulu” style. Maybe try the thinner weave nato with the squared hardware, it appears a bit more refined (if that can even be said of a nylon strap).

Addressing a thinner weave, not long after I bought the OP I took off the bracelet and tried a perlon strap. It fits your idea of being more refined.

But the strap was too thin and flimsy. It actually cheapened the watch to me.

I'll stick with the NATO. Ready to try a gray with a blue stripe maybe.

Not what I was talking about, but I usually do like Perlon. Not on that watch. The thicker Zulu strap you tried isn’t the same as a nato.

I am not a fan of NATO straps at all. But some watches really shine on them. The OP looks at home on it IMO. If you like it, rock it. Looks great.

Doesn't look that bad to me! I think a turquoise strap would make a great choice for the summer.

Sorry that is not for me. The bracelet is the way to go.

I actually like the look with nato strap and nice change. I like the idea of nato on the Rolex Watch too.
