SS Yachtmaster ii.. would you own one?
On my eternal quest to add to my Rolex SS professional sports collection I have noticed that the Yachtmaster ii seems very readily available. Although it’s maybe a bit to bright for my taste I can definitely appreciate this piece and on the very few occasions that I have noticed someone wearing one I actually quite like it on them.
So my question is why does this piece seem to get no love? Is it the size? The price? Or is it the more extraverted design? Would you own one? Do you own one? If so I would love to see some wrist shots please! This is an image that I found on Instagram FYI Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Nope, I'd rather have the YG.

Felt like it was a bit to bright and in your face. But wore one the other day and it was awesome. Needed some kind of YM to complete my Professional collection - didn't think it was going to be this one - but I love it

I don't hate the watch, but I would never buy one. For one, it's just too big for me. Beyond that, the functionality is all wrong for me. I don't need a regatta timer. I do need a date feature, and find a diver bezel quite useful, both features absent from the YM-II. The extroverted design doesn't bother me that much, although the gigantic "YACHT-MASTER II" on the bezel is over-the-top. I guess on the whole, it's just not a watch I would prioritize over any number of others that cost quite a bit less. So, no hate, but no love from me, either.

I’ve always quite liked the Yachtmaster, the utterly ludicrous complication notwithstanding. I can see why the size might be an issue for many, but I don’t have a problem with it. I couldn’t tell you though why I’d never even considered purchasing it.
I checked out the price since you mentioned it and I realised I didn’t know. Nearly £14k! I’m sure that that right there would be a big problem for many. I could buy a grey LVc tomorrow (at 40% over MSRP) AND an Explorer from an AD for the price of the YM. That seems a bit bizarre to me. |

have to admire it for what it does ,,,, but its a bit like a thermo nuclear sewage pump ,,, i dont really have a use for one at any price.
for that reason id be shopping for something different with that amount of cash. |

The giant Yachtmaster II on the bezel is a full stop for me.

My honest opinion: It’s just too big and loud. The Yachtmaster II on the bezel is also a tacky touch. I really wish Rolex had toned it down a bit. As for the watch itself, it has an excellent movement with a cool complication for those that will use it.
It really is a watch just for being on vacation in shorts somewhere. Preferably at the beach or on a boat. I would never wear one with a suit to work. If you are dead set on buying one, I would look for a new MK1 example with the original hands. The Mercedes hands on the MK2 really stick out like a sore thumb. Terrible design choice imo. Those hands only belong on watches like the Sub, GMT and Explorers. Imagine how bad Daytonas would look with Mercedes hands!

I did own one, but sold it. Fantastic watch that looks extraordinary. Amazing wrist presence. Just found paying he premium for a complication totally useless to me was not worth it.

I will say I always take an extra look at this model in the display case. The colours are attractive, (blue bezel a must, it's too bad they put the platinum bezel on wg which lacks contrast compared to the yg and ss versions which are sharp) and I definitely think it's a great summer watch. For me personally, I felt the SD43 pushed the limits in terms of proportions for my wrist. Otherwise, if I had a solid sports collection built up I would add this as a unique piece but likely not the daily option. Good to have variety! |

Absolutely not. No offense to other owners, but that is way too loud for my liking. It's too large and it has huge 'YACHTMASTER' on the bezel.

I actually race boats, perhaps not quite yachts, and would use the starting timing features. Having said that, the YM has a lot going on and is def not under the radar. For a 5 min countdown, then stopwatch for elapsed race time a G-Shock does the job quite nicely.

There is also an old Yacht Club idiom that the guy at the bar, in jeans and the most faded to pink Mount Gay Rum ballcap, probably owns the fastest and most expensive sailboat.

I admit that I'm intrigued by this piece, but the price puts it out of my zone. Now, a plain YM with the gray dial and blue highlights - absolutely on my list.

I was at America’s Cup at St. Francis Yacht club hosted by Rolex and was asked if I sail. My answer was no, but I do drink like a sailor.

I like it a lot but have to agree it’s a worthless complication for me. I tried on the yellow gold just yesterday. I really like the white gold/platinum version. The dial and bezel are much more understated and beautiful.
I have the SD43 and hope to get the new DSSD Blue. That will probably be it for me in the large Rolex line up. |

If I were to get it I'd have to start racing sailboats again. I don't have enough time in my life to do that.
