Scratches on WG Sub
Hi all,
A few weeks ago I caved and bought a new 116619LB—my grail watch. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed small scratches particularly along the lugs of the watch (you need bright lighting to see it). Seems like the watch scratches if I even look at it the wrong way. I plan to daily wear the watch so: 1. What kind of wear can I expect? 2. Is gold that soft? 3. How much is a case replacement (lol)? 4. Is this thing daily-able? If any owners can post pics of how theirs looked after a while, I would really appreciate it! Trying to get over my OCD |

Gold is soft and it scratches easily. If you're OCD it'll drive you mad.
Tom's is about the most "worn in" I've seen, he may be along with some pics if he sees this. In the meantime, here's a thread he started after 5 years of wear: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=403954 |

Thanks everyone for the responses. Since this is my only watch I suppose it doesn’t really matter if it gets worn out . Also wow that is a lot of wear!

Tom's wife primarily wears that white gold Sub, so the scratches and wear are no surprise. We all know how hard the wives are on the watches compared to us men!

Perfectly good for a daily. The scratches give it character.

If you don't want scratches - Don't wear it. It's as simple as that.

TBH, I don't see that my gold watches wear much, if any, differently than we steel watches.
But then again, I am over worrying about each and every little scratch. Ain't nobody got time for that. |

Agree: me either! Can’t spend time worrying. Need to be enjoying. My WG BLRO wears just fine and I don’t treat it any differently. They will all get wear from use, regardless of metal. I’m a user ~ Only one stored in the bank, a perfect 1675 that I got from Springer! Others get worn! 🤙 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Watches will scratch, regardless of metal. It's inevitable. Wear, enjoy and when you get the piece back from RSC, it'll look new the cycle repeats.

If you're having OCD about a few scratches these pics of mine will probably make your head explode. I wear mine 3-5 days a week and it obviously does not get babied at all. #itsjustawatch

Just brush the bracelet. It will look a lot better. 18K PCLs obviously aren't your thing.

Not any different than some of the well worn ss watches shown here. Depends how you wear them more than the type of metal.

Wow that looks a lot better than I expected! How do your lugs look after so much wear?

Gold is softer but my PM watches don't scratch any more so than SS. Basically everything what will scratch your gold watch will also scratch your SS watch.
Rolex uses only 18K gold for durability and it's annealed as well. Not like it is soft as 24K which some believe. Accidentally banging against a brick wall will scratch any watch. Just wear it and comes service time give it the full treatment

To the OP - Rolex high polish won't last very long but the scratches combine to create their own polish. It's your watch so wear it!

This I think is a bit exaggerated as I don't see any difference in wear between my gold or SS watches. To me a gold Rolex is as durable as a Rolex SS watch, they all scratch

PM watches scratch easier than SS. Fact. The composition of the metal dictates softness.
IMO, You have to be OK with more scratches if you want to don PM. Thats why I sold my 116718. |

WG and SS I think it is pretty close to same scratch
People think gold is soft but it's 24kt yellow is soft. White gold ..Rolex yellow 18kt Mixed with many other metals are fine. I bet if you were wearing a SS sub it will still scratch or show scratch as easy. |
