Bourbon recomendations

Hey guys,

I'm not a bourbon drinker (as of yet) but needing some suggestions as a gift for a guy who really appreciates a good bourbon.
I need it for next week so the hard to get stuff isn't an option probably.
I'm thinking up to $200 give or take.
Appreciate any opinions.

I always enjoy just grabbing a nice local bottle...especially being in Florida you will find some interesting bottles!

Most of the time the “high end” brand name bottles you are just paying for the brand name. A real drinker will value a local bottle he’s never tried!

Definitely consider Blanton's. Woodford Reserve as well. My "go to" is Makers 46. All have good availability and are not budget busters. For something a little different, seek out Palm Ridge Reserve bourbon. It's distilled in Lake County(North Central Fla).

My brother-in-law loves a good bourbon. He likes “Bullet” for the money. They all kinda taste the same to me.

I bought a barrel of Jack, so I agree with you to certain degree. Jack Daniels Sinatra Select is incredibley good. At $150 a bottle, it’s a bargain. I keep it in stock all the time.

Bullet Bourbon is one of my favorites, can’t beat it for the price. They also make a great Rye as well! BevMo or Costco usually sell it at a fair price.

Jack Daniel's is not Bourbon...at least not to true bourbon fans.

If you can, try to source a Blanton's Straight from the Barrel (SFTB) from overseas...about $150, but worth every penny and a real bourbon guy would really appreciate it, may not have time for that though. Russell's Reserve Single Barrel is also a safe bet at about $60. EHT Taylor also has some good options, especially the Single Barrel and Barrel Proof. A Midwinter's Night's Dram by High West is also a solid pick at $99. I also always keep a Booker's and Wild Turkey Rare Breed on hand. Jefferson'a Ocean and Ocean Cask Strength are gimicky to some, but I really enjoy them, as well as the story behind it. About $70-$100 depending on regular vs cask and where you get it.

I have a slight bourbon "problem"...

Jack fits all the legal requirements, but includes a charcoal filtering step. I’ve had many, many different bourbons and my taste buds prefer Jack. That’s what matters.

To the OP, check with you liquor store to see if they have some type of bourbon variety pack. It’s always neat to try new things and you’re not committed to a larger bottle of something that may or may not be liked.

Personally, I would rather get a sampler pack of things I've never had. Sometimes, you just have to break out of the routine.

JD can't be called bourbon because it is not distilled in the state of Kentucky. It is branded as Tennessee whiskey, and the single barrel can hold it's own against any Kentucky bourbon, IMO. Simply personal preference.

I like Blanton’s and Bulleit as well.

Eagle rare, Buffalo trace are contenders.

Plenty I can drink, but those are my current preference.
