As you guys may know I have a used DJ I purchased it has an engraving on the back. What is the best thing to do? I went to the Rolex store at south coast plaza they directed me to a watch store they use where they can do it they wanted 65 bucks and it would take a week(I dont want to wait that long).The guy there said i could just use sand paper but i was hesitant because i dont want to ruin the watch. I then went to tourneau they told me that they cant take off the engraving i would have to buy a new backing. Is that true or are they just try to sell a backing to me? What should I do?

Its depending how deep the engraving is,myself would not bother to remove it if you are keeping the watch.Most any good jeweller could remove most engravings if he got the case back off.But you could buy a new case back but that would be quite expensive to replace .

Buy a caseback off of eBay and have an independent put the caseback on. Or, if that's scary, send it to Rolex and they'll put a new caseback on for a few bucks.

If it does bother you, and I understand, then do it right, by purchasing another case back. You'll be much happier in the long run.

I would just pay the $65 and get 'er done. Come on, a week isn't that long. I don't like the idea of changing the backing that the watch was "born" with. Add to that it sounds expensive and that might ruin the deal you got on the piece in the first place. In the mean time you can look at DJ pics here at TRF!

Contact the BH RSC and order a new caseback.

I would get a new back, who wants some one else watch, "in your face". If it is close to the service time, then I would wait and have it all done at once. I can't not understand why people would say they wouldn't change it, but would go nuts if they didn't have the box, tags. paperwork, etc........just my two cents.

If the markings weren't too deep, I'd do it without thinking twice..

I would take it off, and using sticky back 80g al oxide, I would stick the paper to a flat survace and slide the case back, back-and-forth, until it was perfectly flat, the image was gone, and it looked like an original..

If I screwed it up, then I would buy a new one.....
