Do you take your watch off at night?

Greetings all.

I’ve had my SD43 not quite a month. Other than the shower (or to clean it / size it), the watch is never off my wrist.

I’m in my mid 40s and this is effectively my very first watch (as a kid, I had the obligatory Timex on an Army green strap...and then I had a G-Shock when they first came out back in the early 80s).

My wife takes her TT DJ off at night.

Am I “missing the mark” by not giving the watch a rest? In a little over a week, the watch has only lost 5 seconds.

My apologies if this has already been answered before.

I always remove my watch and place on a soft cloth on my nightstand. This allows me to position the watch to gain or lose time throughout the night to help regulate as well as keeps me from potentially banging it on something in my sleep.

Viper,

You raise a great point about regulating at night. I would imagine trial and error are likely mandatory to determine what each position does as each watch is unique...unless I am missing a clever trick to shorten that process.

Wear it all the time, feels like something is missing when not wearing a watch.

Yes it will take some trial and error until you get it right. Try starting with on its side with the crown down for slower and on the side crown up for faster.

If my wife wore her rings to bed, I'd wake up with my face scarred up like a Bond villain.

Wow, you're more worried about scratching your watch than accidentally banging your wife in the face with a watch the size of an SD43?

I don’t think you need to worry about giving your SD43 a break, however I personally take mine off at night. That’s purely because I don’t want to bang it on my bed and I don’t think I could get used to the feeling of it on my wrist as I go to sleep.

I don't; when my watch comes off another goes on my wrist!!! Simple as that. I do date it off for showering as I like to dry my wrist without the watch being in the way.

Only time I don’t have a watch on my wrist is when I’m in the shower or if there is a specific function / training that requires a sterile wrist.

Yes, if you wear it in bed then your watch doesn't get a chance to sleep because it's busy keeping time. If you take it off then it can finally get needed rest. I recommend storing it on a MyPillow because for the best night's sleep in the whole wide world, it's MyPillow dot com.

I don't sleep with my watch on, but I wear it until right before getting in bed and put it on before my feet hit the floor.

Hell yes. I always wear one to bed.

All of my watches whimper, starved for attention, whenever they are away from my wrist.

My watch is the last thing I take off before getting into bed. In the morning I shower without it and then it’s on my wrist again. I take it off for work (FedEx) and wear a FitBit. Same for when I’m at the gym.

Beautiful watch! But doesn't seem like you get to wear it that often with that schedule :(

Thanks! This has been my grail watch since the mid-1980s, acquired just last year. Decades of talking myself in and back out of it, followed by getting the unbearable itch to have one. Oddly, it was my buying an Omega Speedmaster that gave me the kick in the butt to get the GMT.

Sub comes off and a Luminox goes on, better lume for telling time in the middle of the night. Plus, if my Sub is off by a second or two (usually after a couple days) I can regulate it by position overnight.

I wear a watch when I sleep so that I can check the time when I wake up, then I am also ready straight from bed to time my coffee and preparation for work.

Actually, I have had a watch on my wrist for decades. I think once in college my quartz watch broke, and I went a few weeks without one, but it felt very awkward and strange.

I’d be more concerned about my wrist wearing it that much - probably OK in either case.

I don’t sleep with it unless I pass out hard in a hotel room during travel

I use to sleep with my watches for awhile, however I noticed they were getting scratched up real bad from doing so somehow.
