'Downgrading' from a GMT to an Explorer?
I currently own a Pepsi GMT 16700 but feel it's a bit similar to my 16610 Sub. Between the two of them I prefer the Sub. I was thinking of selling/trading the GMT for a 114270 Explorer to diversify a bit. Is this a dumb move? Would the Explorer plus $3000 be about right in terms of what I should be looking for if neither has box or papers?
I've tried on the Explorer and it feels small even on my 6.5" wrists but that could be because I'm not used to wearing something so small. That's really my only concern. On a side note, I am also trading back with a friend for my old Speedy that I had originally purchased new about 5 years ago. I'm aware this would be the most cliche collection ever with a Sub, Explorer, and Speedy. I'd eventually like to add a Reverso as a dress watch. It's funny that I've gone through dozens and dozens of watches but have eventually come back to the classics. They may be boring but I love their versatility and they work great for my business casual lifestyle. I could have saved a lot of time and money had I just stuck with the classics in the first place. But I guess I needed to make the journey for myself to get to this point and not have that doubt in the back of my mind. |

My opinion would be to keep the GMT and add the Explorer. All three are great watches, and a rotation of those three is pretty solid.

I would say keep GMT. I also own a 16610 and a GMT (in my case a 16713) and the chamaleon characteristic of the older GMT’s in swapping bezel inserts would allow you to switch the inserts if you want a new look. Go coke or you may try the all brown insert from the 16718 perhaps! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I would hold onto the GMT unless you are in a rush. Prices will continue to rise IMO. Also, If your first impression of the exp1 is “it’s a bit small”, I would reconsider and maybe look at current version of exp1.

I don't feel the Pepsi is too similar to the Sub, black GMT maybe, in fact I'd probably say the Exp is more so, so I would add not trade.

Do you still wear it enough to justify having it? No matter how cool the watch is, if you’re not wearing it, it is essentially a paperweight and dead money in your watch box.
If you still enjoy it, keep it. But only keep it if you enjoy wearing it, not because you feel you have to have “x” watch to make a collection. Same goes for the EXP - of you have doubts about it, just wait till you find something or until that something finds you. Good luck in your decision! |

I have an Explorer 2 Polar and wanted to add a 40mm sports watch. The GMT and Sub are too similar in appearance for me once you get past the bezels, and the Explorer has a second time zone, albeit against a less pretty and fixed bezel. I went for a Hulk. They are sufficiently different in size and appearance. In a perfect world I would have all three. In my less than perfect world, I will have a Black Bay GMT by around August. So I guess I'm a frustrated Pepsi owner after all.

I'd hang onto the GMT and add. It will be extremely hard to replace the GMT if you let it go, and given the color I think you may get bored of having two all black watches.
