Just purchased first Rolex
Hello gentleman,
Just purchased my first and possibly only Rolex. I did a lot of research, including reading through these forums. I purchased an SD from Ben Bridge Jewler's at my local mall in Honolulu about 4 hours ago. They are an AD at the mall and downtown. Apparently there are only 2 AD's in Hawaii, Ben Bridge being one of them. Just like to say it's awesome owning this time piece. I'm extremely excited and happy at this moment as this time piece graces my wrist. I 've wanted to own a Rolex since I was a kid, and now, at 30, I finally have accomplished that feat. Congrats and well done, Flick. Glad to see you got the whole tool-kit set with your SD. One of the guys recently bought an SD and the crooked dealer did not give him the screwdriver and extra link as well as that dive chart.
Just goes to prove that all that stuff still comes with the SD!!

Thanks for the great welcome guys. I do have one question though. I've seen sharper image has a winder, which has different time settings i.e. 12min/hr, 9min/hr, 6min/hr and 3min/hr. Would you guys recommend something like that at night with it set to run 3 minutes per hour or just leave it lay on the night stand? Just curious.

I always recommend a winder that has multiple settings, and supports "fuzzy logic" operation. There are many brands to be had - some very good deals on Da-Bay as well. Best of luck with your winder purchase, and make sure that if you plan to be a full-fledged member of TRF, you will probably need one that supports four watches on the winder. Just a heads-up there, bro!

Do you have to own four watches to be a full fledged member of this forum?

No. You don't need ANY to be a member, but knowing the way this watch thing grows on you, you will probably wind up with four eventually!!!

Welcome! Great feeling heh? Just to handle the box, taking out the watch, holding it in your hand, studying the certificate. And again, and again..

You shouldn't require a winder to get you through the night. The power reserve is closer to 48 hours. So unless your resting this baby for a few days, keep that spare change in the "Next Rolex" fund.

Congrats Matt and welcome to TRF. I graduated from UH in the mid ninties as we are about the same age. I grew up in Seattle and live in Dallas now, though I miss Hawaii bad. Both my folks are from the islands and most all of my family still lives there. I was home visiting is January, good lord I miss it.
I was actually listening to some Hawaiian jams in the car today.

Flick,
yes, definitely a great purchase! I too just bought my first Rolex this week (from Tiny Jewel Box in Washington D.C.). So far, I am really happy with it. However, I notice you rec'd an anchor key-chain in your kit. I don't really care about the swag, but didn't get the anchor in my box. Does anyone else know whether this is typical? Should I go marching over to TJB and demand an anchor? Could the lack of an anchor harm my watch's resale? Thanks gang! This is a great group! |
