Should a watch purchased from a TS come with a receipt?

Just purchased a beautiful new Rolex (5-18 on the warranty card) today from one of the top TSs on the site. The watch is awesome, but there was no receipt with it. So I called the seller and told him I received the watch, and asked if I could get a receipt. He said he would email me one tonight when he got to his computer to get the serial number, etc. I haven't received it yet, but in the mean time, was just wondering if an official receipt was actually necessary. I have text messages and emails proving I got the watch from him. Certainly not looking to be unreasonable if the receipt doesn't mean much. The seller explained the 5 yr warranty follows the watch. Thanks, Ed

A receipt from a grey market seller will not do anything to the warranty, but it’s nice to have for your insurance. They never send one, but if you ask they will always accommodate you.

Curious, does Rolex honor the warranty if it is not from an AD?

Yes, it was explained to me by the TS, that the factory warranty follows the watch. I have named, dated warranty card from AD.

One of the Ad’s I deal with told me that Rolex would only honor the warranty if you are the original purchaser of the watch from an AD with warranty card filled out by that AD. I will have to ask the other two I deal with to see what they say.

You will find out AD's dont always give you the correct information. Read the warranty for accurate info. Also to answer one of your earlier questions, all Rolex's are sold by/through a AD. There is no other way to buy one that I know of.

Not true in the US. Your AD is full of BS. In the US, the warranty follows the watch and not the original buyer. So whether you're the first or the tenth owner, as long as its under 5 years, Rolex will honor the warranty.

I got the same from David but had to ask for it. Made getting it insured very easy.

I like to have proof of purchase for my records. And especially when purchasing things in EU for proof of me paying VAT as I am between US and Germany a fair bit.

Yep, as a frequent traveller and EU citizen I require a receipt as well. EU customs are keen on collecting VAT and I hate paying taxes twice.

If I'm carrying any high value item on my person or in my luggage (watch, computer, camera, etc)....I have the receipts saved on my phone and/or computer, so I can easily prove to customs/Zoll that I have paid the proper VAT. It's a pain, but no way I'm going to have my items held up while I prove my case.

Recently purchased an unworn GMT from DavidSW too. Great guy to work with but he did not initially provide a receipt. However, he emailed me a receipt with the sn the next day after I asked for one.

Receipt doesn’t really mean much but I’d ask for an appraisal from the TS. You’ll be able to use this for your insurance purposes. Outside of that, you’ve got the watch and warranty card...that’s all you need, some would say all you need is the watch.

No you usually don't get one with a TS, but if you ask for one they will send you an email copy of it.

Than Do, SohAIS, and DSW have all sent me receipts, without my asking... I guess it depends on the TS

The TS emailed me my receipt today. Maybe it's me, but have a hard time exchanging 9k, and not getting a receipt, especially for a wire transfer. Much more comfortable now. Thanks for all the replies.

It's not really necessary with emails and wire transfers that can document everything. You definitely wan't a receipt if dealing with cash though.

TBH, I’ve bought from three different TSs here. I never thought to see if I received a receipt. IMHO, a receipt shows proof of purchase in case I want to return an item. Also shows the item was paid in full. Warranty, to my knowledge, follows the watch as long as the original AD swiped the warranty card.

It’s also important for insurance.

JM didn’t ask for one. Nor did USAA. JM did survey all pieces though. I’m not arguing that a receipt isn’t a good idea of having, I’m just not concerned about it.

For Rolex, warranty is based on the warranty card and their records.

Receipt is an important document to proof your purchase. It should clearly list the item and it’s serial number.

Yea always a nice to have.

I got lucky on my one purchase. I actually got the original sales receipt from the AD. I also kept the the txt messages and email communication with the seller. Not that I am worried about anything just good to have.
