Daytona C Update

A while back ago, I made a post asking about strategies to purchase a 116500 from an AD if you were not a "whale" client. I am not a "whale" by any stretch of the imagination.

Contrary to popular belief, a little bit of chit chat with the right AD can go a long way. I dropped into an AD that I never been to before and started discussing watches with the sales rep. My knowledge was solid enough to show the AD that I'm actually passionate about Rolex and not just a rich bloke who wants a Daytona for the hell of it. At the end of our conversation, I asked to be put on the list, and six days later I got the call for a 116500 black dial. I jumped on the opportunity despite never purchasing from that AD before. I skipped a lot of people in the line.

With that said, I'm going to continue to go back to the AD for all my purchases going forward even if that means being on a wait list for other models. Granted, I got lucky, but it's always free to build relationships in the end.

And no, my Daytona is not for sale!

are you sure he is not the owner or a manager of some sort? I don't think a regular sales rep can decide who the watch can go to (unless he/she is in the million dollar club?)

never say never :) . It's okay if you want to sell it. A lot of people are willing to pay premium for it instead of waiting 10 years :)

6 days later? that's like hitting the lottery + no past buying history or relationship with this particular AD? Wow.. Congratulations, you're a smooth talker my friend.

Congrats to the OP.

This also says “lists” are a ruse.

And just further proves how ridiculous these lists are and people that think the AD is literally working down a list name by name is fooling themselves.

for some reason I can't post links of the watch.

Look me up on Instagram. I'm BLNR1 (I know the name is obnoxious.) I have a photo of the watch on IG.

follow up

I would offer this advice:

1) It's about building a relationship. You need to give off the vibe that you will be a valued customer in the future. To demonstrate that, wear a nice watch, preferably, a Rolex. Know a thing or two about watches.

2) Don't go straight for the jugular and ask for a Daytona C. Make some small chat and then at the end of your conversation bring wait lists.

Congrats! I would do the same and “repay” them by buying most if not all of my future watches from them.
