5512 sold at auction

https://www.georgekidner.co.uk/catal...74F30A88999D43
This just sold at auction for £24000 plus 24 % tax and fees.
That’s £30000, what’s your views of the value of this watch.
Not even got an oyster bracelet ?

5517

I'm currently researching 5517's, the with a T above for tritium, hints that this was a military service watch dial... this is subject to correction as I'm sure others will add to the post.

We need Haywood to comment. I see pcg, 369 dial and possible military connection if real.

No fixed Lugs, no t<25, or any other designation at the bottom of the dial, dial was never described as genuine or the “tritium” t military connection, as well as very sloppy texts on dial lead me to believe it’s most likely fake.

This appeared to be a genuine military issue 5512 with a very close connection to my own.

The dial is of course the MOD redial that would most commonly be expected in A/6538s and 5512s surviving from the time.

I do not know much on this topic but I would be very careful with these kind of watches without provenance. Burford dials are around and just a simple dial swap on an early pcg which lost its gilt dial and this is what you have. Hands and insert are later so this could to me be a quick project for someone having one of the lose burfords I hear is around.

Now this didn’t sell too expensive but you never know when the next one pops up. Of course it could be genuine too but I would love to know more to believe a watch like this.

Do you know if these early milsub 5512’s had some kind of markings on/inside the caseback Haywood? Or on the case. Is the serial numbers/range known?

Gentleman, there is more to knowing why this watch was right than you realise.

As for the price, it is very difficult to gauge where examples should sit. There are very few known and fewer openly having been sold. They are understood by far fewer people than the military 5513 series, which suppresses value....but much rarer, which should inflate it.

Not very helpful but I can respect why. Thanks for taking the time nevertheless.

I guess I will write down the serial and caseback info for future reference.

The more you investigate this the more confusing it becomes, the dial possible does not match the watch,
The military A6538 watches had the original serial number crossed out on the case back and no serial number between the lugs, I’m by no means an expert but sceptical.
There were apparently a box full of military service dials found recently which could have been drip fed into the market place.

there was a box of standard,( manufactured by rolex) 6538 service dials , (white print) onto which a circle T had been applied. In that box , or at least from the same guy who bled those out into the market were a couple of burford dials also he sold ..not a box full, i didn't examine physically examine the burford dials he sold so i cant tell you if they were genuine ones or not , (yes...there are fakes of them) but they were for 1030 calibre fitment , not 1520 calibre fittement ...different feet position, so this has absolutely nothing to do with that story.

the 5512 burford watches have dials with 15XX dial feet and belong to a couple of distinct serial number ranges, forming two delivery batches , as implied here already.

The 5512 dials will be the original gilt dial overprinted by burford.
