True Facet Explorer II 16570T - Abomination to Rolex!

I was scrolling through my Instagram feed this AM and saw an add for True Facet, a pre-owned watch marketplace. They’re not an authorized dealer for Rolex or many watch brands, just a site where people can list their watches for sale and True Facet will “verify” their authenticity.

The flagship image for their sponsored add is a Black PVD-Coated Explorer II 16570T which IMO looks absolutely AWFUL . I clicked on the link to see the watch and not only are the additional pictures terrible, I mean taken with an early 90’s webcam terrible, but some poor sap out there purchased this watch.

I don’t know about everyone’s feelings on aftermarket PVD coating, but figured I share this with y’all.

Here’s the link to the [SOLD] watch listing: https://bit.ly/2L0KUGn

They missed the mark by not playing the engraved 24 hour bezel in silver or white.

PVD doesn’t fare well on TRF despite Tudor playing with it. Eventually the scratches show worse that the underlying SS would look if left alone.

Were it me, on a black dialed Expl. II, only the bezel would get PVD’d and the engraved numerals white-filled.

Sharp eyes - good catch.

It makes you wonder what else may have been overlooked during reassembly.

Deff not for me but there are a lot of people out there who would buy the watch just for the look.

That is a poor coating job for sure, assuming it wasn't colored in with a sharpie. Yikes.

A sharpie is the first thing that came to mind for me too. Can’t believe someone bought this and is undoubtedly proud of it. Crazy world we live in!

There are some companies that do a really good job applying DLC to stainless steel watches, but I think the process is still overpriced and not worth doing unless you have a very large collection. This job looks very poor. I think enough brands (including Tudor) produce ceramic or DLC watches such that I'd rather purchase one of theirs than mod a Rolex.
