Accidental opening of Crownclasp

Does anyone experience an accidental opening of the Crownclasp?

It was opened twice by touching to an external object and luckily the watch did not fell off.

I can’t say I’ve ever encountered that issue with my DJ but I haven’t had it very long either. I imagine you’d have to catch it just right. What did yours catch on to cause it to pop open?

I’ve had it happen on the old tuna can clasps.

On the jubilee crown clasp it could happen. If it happens again, an Oyster bracelet with a more secure clasp may be in your future

The clasp on my old DayDate will sometimes pop open. I take the watch to my AD. She does something to it in the back room and it stays fixed for months. I should get her to work on my trick knee.

Never happened with the couple I've owned but I can see how it's easily possible.

Unless your getting something underneath the crown that will unhinge it - otherwise just by rotating and flexing your wrists it should not open

It can be easily opened by external forces. Without touching the crown, it is firmly secured. You cannot open the clasp even pulling the bracelet with strong force.

Suppose if it snags on something thread-like which loops around it. Or fingernail-like without being an actual fingernail.. Nope never happened to me.

It's never happened to me either. Too many occurrences may warrant a trip to the AD or RSC. I often wonder how long it takes for the locking components in the clasps to wear to the point of possible failure after regular and maybe daily use.

I only got my DJ on Friday and it’s happened twice so far! Once caught on my blouse and today when I was carrying shopping. If it happens again in the next few days I will go back to the AD and see if there’s something wrong with mine.

Had my old DD open up like that on me whenever I was putting a hoodie or anything like that on. I also experienced it randomly as well like at dinner.

Anyways all that needed to be done was the bending of the clasp part and it never came undone again.

I've been wearing the crownclasp for almost three years now, on a more or less daily basis. It never opened. The older "tuna can" clasp opened, when clapping hands. I cannot imagine the crownclasp to open accidentally.

Yes the old pressed metal clasps sometimes used to pop open when clapping or with a shock to the palm of the hand or wrist area when playing sports or ball games, etc
This happened with all brands of watches which had that type of clasp.

I suppose that's why Rolex introduced the Oysterlock clasp that had the extra fold over clasp lock.

I don't own one of these but I've thought the same thing before...good to hear it doesn't seem to impact too many folks though.

It is not a defect. It happens to people with small wrist. The bending of the bracelet leaves a gap between the little crown and the bracelet surface. It is more vulnerable to be opened unintentionally.

Agreed.

With a smaller wrist and the location of the release mechanism Coronet combined with the turn of the bracelet around the wrist will leave it exposed to becoming inadvertedly hooked on things, thereby triggering an unexpected release.

Perhaps the bracelet could be re-configuted with the addition of a full or half link on the 6 o'clock side of the bracelet and subsequent removal of an equivalent link on the 12 o'clock side of the bracelet.
This would slightly re-locate the release away from a vulnerable place under the wrist.

My wife has the same clasp release on her 31mm DJ with absolutely no problems reported.
And she's hard on the gear

I’d love to see a double folding clasp.

This! 👍👍 I have a small wrist too but no question of accidental openings. My former local AD pointed out the importance of a correct collocation of the links taken off.

Ah I have got a very tiny wrist and looking at where my crown release is it is vulnerable to me catching it. I will have to see if they can reconfigure the bracelet to move it.

6.5" wrist, 6 links on the 6-o'clock side before the clasp and 7 on the 12-o'cklock side before the "blade" begins.

I wear this 24/7/365, although I have not had it that long I have had other DJ's with the crown-clasp and never had they opened accidentally.

PS - nor has there been an incident of my hairy arm catching pulling hair by the bracelet.

I think mine maybe needs another link taking out. I’m really bony and I don’t think that’s helping 😳

Yours looks upside-down, the crown top is supposed to be pointing towards the closest distance to the watch head.

Ooh I’m not sure - the AD took 4 links out - did they do it incorrectly?

Here is a pic from the web for illustrative use only...

When you take off your watch and close the clasp like in the picture above is the clasp centered with the top of the crown on the short side of the bracelet near the watch head like in the picture? If so you're good.
