Help with next purchase

Hi all,

I always get great advice from everyone on this forum, thank you. I need help again. My husband has birthday in 2months and I am planning his gift. I got him a Bluesy in 2016 and a hublot Big Bang last year. I am thinking what will be nice to add next. He has an omega and day/date breiling.

I was thinking to add a hulk next. What do you think? Or is Panerai a good option? I know he would like to add IWC Portuguese in his collection but I think it’s boring lol (sorry don’t mean to offend anyone).

Appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you so much.

I think the Hulk has too much green for long time ownership.

The IWC 5001-07 is a nice model.

I also like the RG 231 Panerai.

But there are so many other watches to choose from.

Good luck

The Hulk is nice, but how about the BLNR for the extra complication?

So many choices that it’s impossible to give you advice. Is the LVC a great watch? Yes if he likes green

I’d take him shopping and let him pick

I know many consider it a entry level watch, but you may want to consider the Airking... I have the bluesy as well, and am thinking about that...

First off, excellent job with your past watches, all great choices!

It sounds like he has a pretty good collection going thus far. Since he has the Bluesy (Dive Watch), Big Bang (Dive/Chronograph), Omega (I am assuming the Speedy but can be wrong), and the Breitling (classic and simple); I am going to give my opinion to try to add something different along with my takes on the brands.

The Hulk is a great watch and a great option to add some diversity to the line. The green dial looks different in almost any situation whether indoors or outdoors. Now since he has a Bluesy, it would just be a color and bracelet difference of the same watch. The Hulk is a classic and as you can read on here, TONS of people swear by it but you could think it is too similar in style to the Sub he already has.

Panerai is a good choice, with a ton of different models and model families to chose from. The Radiomir line is more the classy, clean line watch as opposed to most of the Luminors that have the famous Panerai crown guard on them. If you go into the dated families (Radiomir 1940 or Luminor 1950) you are getting their in-house movements which are nice but can be more pricey. Most of their watches are on the large side (I think average is 44mm) so that is something to be aware of if he doesn't like large watches. I have always been a fan of the Submersible or the basic Luminor 1950. The fun with Panerai is there are TONS of strap options for the watch (due to the ease of changing it), thus changing the look when needed.

IWC is also a good bet and although he has a Breitling for the "pilot watch" aspect, that Breitling is more of a dress/simple watch for me (very similar to the Rolex DD). I own their Pilot Chronograph in the Le Petit Prince version and love it. It has a great blue dial and I really like the look of the pilot watch with the easy to read dial and hands. If he was leaning to a Portuguese, I am thinking he liked the classic lines and dress appearance of it and you can find that look in their pilot line as well. The IWC Big Pilot is a classic and really has a clean look.

Some other options to look at:

Tudor GMT. I think this is a great watch and being with the "Rolex Family" could be a good option. Since he does not have a GMT, it could be a good addition since it is a different movement all together. It has a two tone Pepsi bezel and has a classy look on either a strap or bracelet.

Omega Aqua Terra or Omega Speedy. If he has a Speedy, you cannot go wrong with getting a divers type watch from the same brand. I love the Aqua Terra look, especially the silver dial with blue hands on blue rubber. Or if he has a diver watch from Omega, a Speedy is a perfect choice with the chronograph and racer feel to it.

I hope your search goes well and let us know what you pick. Happy hunting!

Hulk would complement Bluesy very well. I honestly believe you can't go wrong with a Rolex Submariner. Especially if he likes green. Also the black one or a Batman if he doesn't mind the PCLs. Take him to the mall and see where his eyes go to.. I love Rolex so pretty much any professionals would make me a happy camper!

PS And yes, from one gal to another, Portuguese is boring

Just going to add some interesting political correctness to this topic (just for fun) - how do you know the OP is a gal?

Yes, but his point was that in certain circles and jurisdictions, men can and do also have husbands. Personally, I'm a dude and went the wife route but as with NATO straps and Crocs... to each his or her own.

Unless green is really his favorite color, I'd encourage continued variety either with a GMT as others have mentioned, or perhaps an AP or others. Excellent choices so far.

Great choice with the Hulk over the IWC and Panerai imo. You can never go wrong with any Submariner, any color and any metal.

Your husband is a lucky man, congrats to you both!
