114060 becoming vintage with me

I currently own a sub ND. I always see great vintage subs on here in the pictures. My thinking on it is I am not going to purchase a vintage sub but rather I am going to let my sub become vintage as the years roll by and I become vintage myself.

Which brings me to my question.... how many on here with a vintage Rolex (sub or other) are either the original owner or it was passed down to you from the original owner and not a purchase (i.e. you are wearing the sub your father bought thirty years ago and then gave to you).

I am not saying there is anything wrong with buying a straight up vintage watch. I am just curious how many people who wear one have gone through 25+ years with it.

My Dad gave me my great-grandfather’s Rolex for my wedding. My Dad never wore the piece (he’s not much of a watch guy), so it had sat in a drawer somewhere for at least 30 years or so. It had to go to Switzerland for service, but now it’s in great running order and looks great too. It’s a little, square, manual wind, yellow good piece, so I really can’t wear it everyday...I’m also terrified of damaging it...but it makes a lovely dress piece that I try to wear as frequently as possible

16750 GMT BLRO, original owner for just about 30 years! And I do have an 114060 that I love as well. Being that I am 50 this coming march and my sub ND is not to old 80 seams to be a ways off to catch the GMT LOL!

My grandfather bought a couple air kings back in 1981 (back when it costs just below $1K) as gifts for his family members and my father was one of them, my dad gave it to my uncle and wore it throughout the 80s then gave it back to my dad, it sat for the next two decades in the box until he gave it to me.

I have owned my GMT 16700 pepsi for 24 years, I won't ever sell it and have had my Submariner 114060 ND for 4 years. I don't think I will ever sell them, certainly not my 16700 GMT having owned it this long.

My late father passed his 1979 18078 to me. He wore the watch 24/7 30 years.I Wear it on a monthly rotation.

My father is the first owner of a K serial DJ... Dont know if that's eventually coming my way or not, but if it is I'll proudly wear it.

I guess it's debatable whether this watch qualifies as 'vintage' but I bought my 168000 new in 1987 and have worn it virtually every day since. I'm not sure which I prefer to say: that it's become vintage with me, or if it's just old like I am :)

My father and late uncle both bought 1680’s while on vacation in 1977. My uncle ended up with a red 1680 and my dad a white 1680... my dad has worn that watch every day for 41 years. My uncle never wore the red sub and it’s now in my possession. Pretty cool story and I’ve told it many times. My dad has always been a Rolex guy and absolutely never takes one off.

^It's been a faithful 'companion' for many years, through thick and thin. It was only serviced once- I should probably send it in. Hour markers have lost their glow but the pearl still shines brightly, though not for long.
