Only have myself to blame...

Hi again guys, so I originally posted i had dinged my GMT bezel and after a few great responses I liked the idea of moving the bezel insert to sit on the area of the ding which would be leas inconspicuous i.e. the 6. It was my first time taking the bezel off. I tried and got it off, moved the bezel around as intended but tried to fit it back and it got stuck! I then tried to remove the bezel off using the same original technique and moved from this situation regarding the lower right lug:

To this!

I completely messed up the right lug! It was smooth and clean and now its dented! So painful to look at. And to make things worse: the bezel is stuck and won’t turn. I’ve really messed this up.

I’m taking it to RSC London this week to help me with, but my question is (despite having just got this back from service):
A) can they sort the lug I have damaged out, what will they do and how much would it cost; and
B) what have I done wrong to get the bezel stuck in the first place?

Never doing this bezel insert change myself ever again!

Thanks!

Sorry about your GMT. I’m sure RSC will bring it back to its previous condition.
No need to “beat yourself” up. Learn from it and move on.

Don't lose any sleep over it. I'm sure that RSC will get it looking real good and take care of the damages.

Yeah sorry to see that bud , rsc will shave a bit off to get that lug right , won’t take much.

Did you tape the lug up before levering it , and what did you use as the wedge ?

Sorry to see that. This just reinforces my view that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

RSC will make your watch as good as new, no problem.

Stop fussing and enjoy the watch the way it is now.

Awesome post! Did you see the Sub that sold last week with no bezel, a one owner (“artist”) for $1M or so? Crazy money and I guess the fact that the bezel was missing added character!

The lugs are only superficial. Worst situation is welding for deep chunks of metal missing.

Enjoy the watch and don't worry about the minor stuff. Life's too short.

Ha ha ha.

Don't try to resize your bracelet yourself as you might do the same to the sides of the links and mangle the screw heads

It's a good thing you don't have a fairly scarce watch model to play with and hack up
At the end of the day, the damage is nothing a bit of judicious laser welding couldn't fix in the right hands.

Im trying really hard to find the problem that needed fixing in the first picture.

The marks in the second picture I wouldn't worry about.

Don't worry. This can be easily sorted, enjoy it till RSC takes care of it.
Out of curiosity, what tool did you use to try and remove the bezel ring? Surprised whatever you used was hard enough to cause that dent, normally scratches are easily picked up, dents really take a lot of effort to make.

As for the bezel ring. My assumption is that it is not fully mounted on, thats why it isnt rotating.
I would leave everything as is for now though, and let RSC handle the rest! :D

try using a butter knife in a watch cloth to pop the bezel. Good luck. To be honest, even tho you did cause that, at some point the watch is going to pick up scratches n stuff like that. the only person who will see it is you. just add the scratch to the memories formed with the watch.

Only have myself to blame...

They can fix it. Maybe a couple hundred USD in our world. Use a stiff plastic credit card to pop off bezels or a nylon kitchen tool with an edge. Never use metal. Always use electrical tape on the lugs. As far as a stuck bezel, not rotating, sometimes the spring gets bound up off center and will pinch and stick the bezel. Pop it off with a credit card and gently rotate it as you press it back on. You can do it. I’ve dented a lug too and it taught me a lesson. Removing a bezel is not hard but i don’t put metal on metal. Another lesson I learned is not to worry about scratches and dents. Inevitably I end up causing more problems when I try to fix something than the minor issue I began with. Best to let it go and enjoy. These are tool watches, not beauty queens who have to be primped and polished often. At least that’s my take...

Thanks guys for the useful information- as always! Am taking it to RSC this week and going to see what they say; I’m going to ask they sort my bezel out and will see what the cost of repair is before deciding what to do. I woke up today and agree with a few that it actually kinda adds a bit of character...never thought I would say that!

And for those asking, I used masking tape and a silver butter knife. I must have wedged it too hard and the edge of the knife with (masking tape) probably hit the lugs when I used too much force. One thing is for certain: no more bezel changing done by myself!
