Would you trade your 16710A for a BLNR?
With the recent GMT fever going on this summer, I have been sporting my 16710 coke GMT more often now. A friend of a friend approached me and offered a straight up trade for his Batman. At first, this seemed like a no-brainer to me because I would get a more recent watch with the c bezel. But then I started thinking how I would really miss the pop of red on my current watch.
Curious to hear your take on this? |

I wouldn't if the 16710 has matching papers

I wouldn’t do it. The 16710 is no longer produced. The BLNR is still in production and can be obtained.

BLNR is far more rare and scarce than the 16710 which was made for around 17 years and there are hundreds of thousands of them.

I wouldn’t trade, and I have the BLNR. I wouldn’t trade for a 16710 either. Always gotta add in my opinion. I bought my watches for a reason, so I would miss them.

For pure objectivity. Yes. Batman has a superior bezel, bigger/boxier case, maxi dial, brighter lume, better/sturdier clasp with the extension, platinum coating in the GMT numbers on the dial, plus its a newer watch.
For pure aesthetics. No, keep your 16710 Coke. It's a classic. Plus yes the "Pop" of that red. And that red is special. Its a darker burgundy than the Pepsi red. Plus it flies under the radar, unassuming. Not blingy in my opinion. And that velvet brushed bracelet. Coke is sublime.

Nope as well. Can’t get a 16710 now but the blnr anytime if you really want it.
And your friend knows that, why’d you think he was offering in the first place. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wouldn't...but value wise it's not far apart assuming equal conditions without you having a rare 3186/your watch being unpolished etc.

I had a BLNR and a 16710 as well as a 16700. I sold the BLNR, but I still have the 2 five-digit models. Hell no I wouldn’t do it.

Let us hear more about your 16710. What year or serial is it? Complete set? What’s the condition of both watches?
The value is probably pretty close. If you have a really nice 16710 example, it will be harder to replace currently, in the event that you regret it. My head is thinking to keep the 16710, but honestly my heart would rather have the BLNR. I own both and while I admit the BLNR and I are still on the honeymoon, the 16710 is one of my least worn watches. I’m sure 9 times out 10 I’m reaching for the BLNR. All that said, I’d still try to add the BLNR if possible. |

Depends on the condition of both and what the GMT means to me. If it's just another watch, I'd make the trade. The BLNR is a subjectively better watch and objectively, very much an improvement.
