GMT II vs Explorer II

I don’t plan to get any of these watches but I just want to hear your opinion on which you prefer and why since both of them have a similar function.

Ultimately, they're mechanically very similar. The GMT has an extra time zone thanks to it's rotating bezel, but other than that the main differences are color, price, and now size.

For me personally, the GMT is one of my favorites. That being said, I chose the Explorer II due to the white dial (I had a lot of black) and the much lower price point. The Explorer II is functionally very close, but thousands of dollars cheaper. That allowed it to be in my budget.

I recently paid MSRP for ExpII, $8100, correct if I'm wrong but doesn't the GMT Master go for $9300?

GMT as I use the function to track 3 time zones constantly.

I had the EXPII for a year, thought it was a great watch but flipped it for a GMT. I preferred the look of the GMT and appreciated the rotatable bezel.

Same movement but the GMT can track 3 time zones,
because the rotating bezel.

They look very different!!!

GMT more elegant and explorer more like a tool watch IMO.

Ok, the 3 time zones is if you rotate the bezel and know the 24 hrs original position.

You are right that it only tells 2 time zones.

But look this photo for example

The normal local hour would be 1pm the bezel hour 6pm or 18hrs, and the other would be 12 pm where the 24hrs original position should be.

I hope I explained this right and makes sense.

The Explorer ii has a newer movement (3187, the GMT Master II has the 3186)
There are three components that have been upgraded, I forget where I had the link.
There is some argument as to whether one of the components is merely a larger size due to more space in the case. Although for me, larger is stronger

I'm the odd one out here. I swapped a (too shiny for me) BLNR for the (more matt all over) 16570 Explorer ii. They have identical movements and I couldn't see the extra value in a rotating bezel i never rotated. Ideally I'd have both obviously, but the BLNR for dress up and the 16570 for dress down.

I have the BLNR and really wanted a polar Explorer. I love the white face and orange GMT hand, I tried it on several times in the past couple of years but it never looked right to me in person and on my wrist.

I went for a new EXPll 42mm polar. I just liked the look better including the bracelet and the cyclops isn't so much in your face as it blends with the white dial which is also more legible. It has the best lume I've ever seen as well.
The GMTII LN was my second choice but being l have a SubC it looked to redundant to me and l really didn't want another watch with PCLs.

BLNR for me, I love blue. If money wasn’t an issue I would definitely add the Polar EX2 to my BLNR.

Had the BLNR but flipped it because it looked too similar to the Sub C. The Exp ii 216570 complements the Sub better. As an only watch, I’d choose the GMT ii.

Having had the EXII and now owning the BLNR I can tell you they both wear very differently. For me, the EXII always felt 'off' on my wrist. I also never got over the hand size and paint scheme of the dial/handset (I owned the black one), and the crown always seemed to be undersized for the model. So, all those factors considered the BLNR doesn't have the 'issues' that I found displeasing on the EXII...which is why I sold it about a month after purchasing. That said its watches and everyone is different in what they like.
