Collecting old money and coins

Anyone on the forum into old money collecting as a hobby? Recently I’ve been reading about 500 and 1000 dollar bills and the history and present day value behind them. Like anything else old the rarity and condition drastically effect price of course. Looking on eBay 500 dollar bills are going anywhere from 350 over face value to anywhere around 1,500 plus over the value of the note

If you want to collect notes, look at the educational notes from 1896. They are literally works of art. There is a $1, $2 and $5 denomination. These bring a premium much higher than the $500 and $1000 notes.
The $500 and $1000 notes are quite bland and boring in comparison. Not much to look at.

There is tons of info out there on them. A quick internet search brings up pages upon pages of sites with great info.

Don't jump in.

Learn and buy graded notes.

I've collected coins and notes for quite a few years although most was from Canada. It's a fun thing to do but its mostly for me a legacy thing. You'd always hate to sell anything because it will almost always go up in value if it's kept.

Bruce McNall the controversial ex owner of the Los Angeles Kings that brought Gretzky to LA made his fortune in coins. You might try to find what places he hangs out on the internet and learn from that.
