What in size?

The movement for base models is 16½ lignes big. (1 ligne = 2.5558mm)

The automatic movements is sized 13¼ lignes.

So automatic movement is smaller so there are 40mm models available for them.

Now there are only 44mm Luminor manifattuira range models. The movements (except for tourboillion) are sized 13¾ lignes! Wee bit bigger than automatics. If Panerai intended for inhouse to be for 44mm only then they'd have more room to design their movement.

That got me wondering...

I'm guessing they started some of their designs off of the JLC movements with their 8 day power reserves. Do you know how big the JLC 8 days are?

Panerai and JLC are closely related. I suspect in a few years (just my gut feeling) that we'll see more JLC movements in Panerai watches.

Hope so! And chrono auto movement similar to El Pimerio of course!

Maybe SIHH 2009 or 2010, we'll hear more of that?
