University Professors: What Rolex Do You Wear?

Hi Gang,

I have seen more than a few university Professors / Ph.Ds on this forum, and it made me wonder what Rolex Professors wear. I suspect there is quite a bit of variety, but I am curious nonetheless. I struggled a bit deciding whether or not a solid gold watch is appropriate for a public university Professor (Being a university Professor is my “Final Act”, I made my money in a 30 year career as an Electrical Engineer, with a patent I developed and own) but I ultimately decided I did not care what anyone at my university thinks and I bought what I wanted. I have not seen a single Professor on my campus with a Rolex.

Any Professors out here in WIS-land want to chime in?

Joe

Academics don't typically have much interest in wrist jewelry as long as it tells the time.
Just look at the way they dress...

I’m not a PhD but I’m a MEd and teach. My daily watch is a SS Datejust 36mm, i do switch it up sometimes though. Generally educators don’t make much so it’s hard to come by academics who have the income for a Rolex.

Edit: I also wear diamonds and it’s not faulty who say anything, it’s students. They joke that I sell drugs haha

HA! I didn’t go to college but all of the professors I have known or had for customers etc always look like this

Same could be said with A LOT of doctors......

Absolutely nothing wrong with it, just a tad funny.

Lol. Tell me about it. I am the only Professor (Non Admistrator) in my college who wears a suit and tie every day. I wore a suit and tie as an engineer... and I saw no reason to change as an academic. Interestingly, other Professors think I want to be an administrator, but I will NEVER take an administrative position. I will quit first.

This too, I wear suits and dress shoes which is odd to everyone. It’s just my personality I suppose

Based on your past life you could always wear a Milguass. Bit clichéd though.

Milgauss? I was referring to the financial side of things (hopefully in a supportive way).

Good choice. Vintage Hamiltons and Bulovas are always interesting to see, too. Let me know if you ever post those up in the Non-Rolex section here

I was a visiting professor for a few years (M. S. not PhD) and I wore my Tag.
I didn't have a Rolex at the time, but it would have been the yacht-master as that was what I had wished to have.

I resemble that remark! Depending on the day it could be:
DJ 41

Sub

Or GMT II

I think you will pull off a gold Rolex fine given your age and career history. Older people tend to get away with dressing however they want

For example -- I'd think a man in his 20's with a straw hat and gold day date is trying a bit too hard, but wouldn't bat an eye at a man in his 60's wearing the same

Nobody is offended by my dad's yellow gold DD40. He looks like he's old and earned it (both are true)

What about a 45 year old man in Adidas track pants, hoodie, and worn out baseball cap with a gold GMT?

Sounds like Peter Pan syndrome

all I'm saying is older men tend to get a pass on things like jewelry, hawaiian shirts, hats, cowboy boots, etc.

I have been a visiting critic at USC in the School of Architecture and had students comment on a Daytona and GMT II Coke.

University Professors: What Rolex Do You Wear?

If anything, you will be motivating your students to do well and showing them they can be successful as engineers. Also please share your story of your success and your patent and proudly show the gold watch to them as a reward that you earned.

I am an electrical engineer by training and work in engineering field now. When at UofT, I used to love that one professor that used to dress nice and had the coolest gadgets ( laser pointer etc), and talked about being picked up by the client’s stretch limo and flying first class.

Taught in military schools in the Middle East.

Wore my 1680 and later rotated a 16233 (TT Date-Just) into the mix.

BTW, dress code was jacket and tie, no sandals. Always had to look sharp because
you never knew when the king/prince/emir would show up.

A teacher at our local high school wore a YG DD40 daily. He was a former Goldman Sachs guy who retired from Wall Street to pursue his dream, teaching. History, both European and U.S.

M.Ed here and teach. I sometimes wear my 14060M, but because of my attire (shirt/tie), I gravitate towards my IWC 3714.

I was at a dinner the other night with a bunch of retired Ivy league professors and one of them (from the EE department) was wearing a beautiful TT DJ on Jubilee.
