Thinking of a trade

Thinking of trading my model year 16 James Cameron for a yacht master II. I was obsessed with the Cameron but honestly find that I never wear it now. I’d just like a little honest feedback and opinion.

In my opinion.......NEVER.
116660 JC is a special piece IMO and you may regret letting it go.

If you think it’ll become a collectors item in the future, you might keep it if it’s in really good condition. It is one of the few “special editions” that Rolex has done.

But other than that, what’s the point of having a watch that you never wear?

If you prefer the YMII I'd go for it, my opinion shouldn't matter but personally I prefer the JC.

wrt collector status/investment, I wouldn't speculate, I'd either flip and get some instant utility out of a new watch or just sell it and put the funds in the market. I just hate the idea of a wonderful watch sitting around collecting dust.

Either way, need some pics!

Keep the JC and add the YM II(if possible).

Thanks all. I’ve decided to not trade. I really like the jc even though I’m not wearing it. It is a truly special piece imho. Time to add something new now I think.

Then absolutely not. If you want a YM2, go for the YG. Do it right or just keep the DSSD D-blue.

Nor everyone is fortunate to be able to just drop tens of thousands of dollars on a full gold watch.

Sometimes this forum could benefit from a dose of humility

Why are you singling out one member who shared his opinion on the YMII he suggested?

He wasn’t taunting anyone.

Speaking of humility, your sig line seems to proudly exhibit the thousands you’ve spent over the years.

Humility starts at home methinks.

We are a diverse community with widely varying levels of disposable income. Casting shade on those who spend it on watches, or cars, or whatever just seems counter to the TRF philosophy methinks.

a watch you don't wear is the worst watch to have. It doesnt matter what you trade for as long as its something that gets wrist time

Hi Paul,

There was no intent to cast a shade on anyone's purchasing decision.

On the contrary, and perhaps I read it incorrectly, but as I saw it, Tebow's post was doing just that to the OP. It was the only one suggesting that his choice of a S/S YM2 was in some way substandard and the only way to go was full YG - hence my comment.

I agree humility begins at home and yes, those watches have been bought and sold by me - over the past 30 years. I've been fortunate in that overall my net spend is £zero. In fact I'm approximately 1000 of your American dollars ahead. With a fair amount of luck and some half decent negotiating, I've being able to indulge my hobby has cost me less than the MRSP of my Sea Dweller (if one conveniently dismisses the opportunity cost)

They're in my sig because this is an enthusiasts forum. And I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to own each and every one of them.

Thanks for the clarification.

Since I joined I also flipped and bought/sold. I was net zero, too, until my DD and Platona were stolen during a burglary.

In 10 years of flipping (starting with a Polar Explorer that a year-end bonus funded in 2001) I was ahead about $95K which paid for those 2 watches. None of that would have been possible without the support, knowledge and connections I gained in this wonderful community.
