Hi guys, recently this particular bug is on my back and especially so after being pleasantly surprised by the DJ41's size and feel on the wrist. I am now back to the 30ish to 40mm sort of size after my stint with panerai.

Must admit i have never been a fan of DJ or even even PCL (which is the main reason i sold my BLNR), in my collection is sd4k, expy mk2 and a few others.

But im opening up to the floor now if every Rolex fan should have at least a DJ in their collection?

And if so, should it be the 36mm or 41mm, fluted and jubilee'd is a must i guessed?

I think "must haves" are very personal definitions. I can honestly say I love my 36mm DJ. It has a certain elegance without being dainty, heritage without being outdated. Plus I love the jubilee after a Michael Young restoration. Good luck on your hunt!!

Must? I doubt that. But nice to have, absolutely. I have two Rolex's. An old Sub date, and a ss DJ36. If I were buying now, I would have the Sub date and a 41DJ. As much as I like the DJ36, it makes me look older than I actually am, if that is possible.

Must have a Sub, must have Daytona, should include a GMT, needs a DJ, must include a Speedy...
At this rate I'll have to own the whole Rolex catalog and everything Hodinkee reviews just be respected.

I would just get the watch I want, who cares what youtubers or "serious collectors" say..if you like it just get it , make yourself happy.
Okay lols, so the DJ...I think a DJ looks best in traditional form, fluted on jubilee, the new rose gold two tones are beautiful so I'd consider one. For my wrist I would go DJ41 as it wears much smaller but would probably choose a 36mm if selecting a two tone. Good luck.

Dj is a beautiful watch in its own right. If in doubt, buy a used one first.

There is no must have watch in a must have configuration. In this thread, there will be many people including me telling you to go for what you want like any other thread that asks for advice.

I personally went for DJ41 as my first Rolex and haven’t looked back. Most people would tell you that fluted and jubilee is the one to have but when I tried the combo I didn’t like it so I went with what I liked (smooth bezel and jubilee) and I’m sure you’ll go for what you like at the end of the day.

My advice is try every single combo that you think you might like and one of them is ought to make you go WOW!

I like the DJ and think it is a classic design. I have owned several DJ II's and currently have a Diamond and Rhodium dial model. If you like it, go get it, wear it and enjoy it.

I traded a DJ41 fluted jubilee for that exact watch and I haven’t wore another since I got it. I think it’s the perfect everyday watch. I wear it super casual and dressed up. With the cape cod cloths there is no need to shy away from PCLs anymore.

I had the bug too! Went with the 36mm and absolutely love it. The 41 was a little too big and overpowering for me.

Not at all. The only watches you should have in your collection are ones you can't live without. If the DJ falls into that category, then by all means...

As to which one, that's up to you. I like the 41, but you should get the one you like.

DJ41 fluted bezel/jubilee is beautiful. The DJ41 would be a great addition to add some versatility in a collection among the Rolex professional lines you have. Also, the DJ41 measures close to 39mm as I've read on here...

I have one in my collection - 41 - blue dial, smooth bezel on the oyster bracelet.

Great in a rotation. And it’s a very classic piece that is both sporty and elegant.

I think the smooth bezel adds a bit of a more modern look.

What you consider “must own” is a personal preference. I have a DJ II in my collection but my preference is definitely for the professional watches.

My first two Rolex back in the nineties were DJs. I recently tried on a 41 just for size and I almost made an impulse buy. The fit and feel is superb. The silver dial really does it for me.

Hopefully if this bug doesnt go away, i will add one down the path..

My wrist are too large but this watch is the best bang for the buck imo and I’m not a smooth bezel fan. But on this combo with the rhodium dial its special

Yea, DJ IS Rolex. DJ is THE iconic Rolex for a reason. I ador my DJ2. When I first got into Rolex decades ago I was all about profesional sport models. I didn’t give the DJ any thought. The longer I owned Rolex, the more I grew to understand why the DJ is so popular. When the DJ was upsized, was when I fell head over heals for the DJ and all its spender of the fluted crown.

DJ 41 with jubilee - the only bracelet watch I forget is on my wrist. Perfect balance and comfortable for all day wear.
