Servicing when selling
Does servicing a watch add any value to it when selling, especially if it has had just one owner? Or as a buyer does it just give you piece of mind? (of course the watchmaker serving it couldve done bad job)

You won’t get your money back by servicing. It might help
I tell sooner but if you spend $800 on service you be lucky to get half of that back when selling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

For me only if done by an official RSC, anything else would make me pass on buying.
Service and polishing done by good willing amateurs are depreciating value imho. There are always exception to the rule i.e. LAWW who are probably doing a better job than an RSC

The only way I could see value and where you could possibly get your money back would be for a hard not to find model and it did not have the original papers. If RSC did the work then they would provide a guarantee. It’s not as great as original paperwork but better than nothing.
For example if you have a 16610LV. As everyone knows you swap the insert, dial, and hands you can makes 1000s and fool someone. Now if it was serviced and came back with the guarantee that might pay for itself as you could list it higher and probably someone would buy it. |

Unless the watch wasn't running, I'd sell as is, where is. I would think the more sophisticated buyer would prefer an untouched watch but if touched, only by RSC. I'd rather discount a watch by about half the cost of a service than hope to recover any more with a service.

servicing cost is part of owning an automatic watch.
It's like owning a vehicle, you need to tune it, but you won't get your money back |
