DD 40 v. 36 — Which looks better?

Stopped by my AD today and decided to try on DDs. The 40 is amazing, but it felt huge on my wrist. The 36 was much lighter and felt larger than a typical 36.

Which size looks better (ignore dial combo and other specs). Sorry the dial/gold combos are so different.

36. All the way.

Better fit on your wrist. More comfortable to wear by a long mile.

And that dial is pretty damn gorgeous imo.

Man up! 40 is the way to go.. We need to stop this whole “my wrist is too small” campaign. Most girls can pull off 40mm and imo personal preference, height and body type are much more significant than your wrist size. My wrist is 5.5” and have zero issues with a 40. My AP44 fits great as well.

No offense gravity, but in that pic the 40
Looks too big ... but honestly if it feels good to you that’s all that matters. To the OP, if the 40 doesn’t feel “right” then you need to take a step back , pause, and consider whether you are ok w taking a $25k+ risk that you will “grow into it”. Personally, my wrist is around 6.7 and I can pull off a 40 comfortably depending on the model - a SubC for example is pushing it while the BLNR is great. In an AD, a 40 DD fits good but don’t own one. A 42 exp2 doesn’t work for me.

I couldn’t be offended by another’s opinion but always like a discussion. I sold my 36 plat DD long ago becuase it just was too small for me but back when I bought it there was no such thing as a 40mm DD. I mean I absolutely love my SD43 and AP44 so my last worry is how my DD40 fits. Again, it’s all a personal preference. Some guys like skinny jeans that are up their ass and grab their ankles and hell, some even pull them off. To each their own. My only advice is to go try them all on and get what YOU like.

I can tell you now that your 44mm watch does not fit great on your 5.5 inch wrist I’m afraid!

LOL that was the day it arrived and didn’t even know they were on. Figured that out a few days after.

Also flash update:

Wrist is just over 7”. To make a long story a bit longer ... This was actually the first time in my life I measured my wrist, I mean who really has to measure it? Watch models don’t come in band sizes, you buy a watch you like and remove / add links to make it fit. Anyway, so I asked my gf for a tape measure becuase she often measures cloths, I only have the industrial metal ones. She gives me one and to my shock it showed just under 5.5”. There was no reason for me to question it becuase I had no reference of wrist sizes. Last night I revisited her tape measure and her being Chinese, her tape measure used “CUN” aka the “Chinese Inch” which I had never heard of but at a glance really looks like inches. What are the odds. Anyway, after switching it for a tape measure the rest of the planet uses, it measured a fraction over 7”. So my bad for the incorrect info and comparisons but my view still stands. Wear what YOU like! Odds are if someone tells you your watch is too big, it’s more jealousy than an objective opinion. I wear my SD43 more than any others and find it more comfortable not becuase of the size but becuase it weighs less than my DD or AP. I think weight is a much more significant factor to consider than size. But hey, to each their own.

Haha, thanks for taking the trouble to find out.

I agree with what you say with regards to wearing what one likes and, had it been the case - the OP wouldn't be asking for advice on here. Since, he has - he will be presented with different opinions and recommendations according to various posters' preferences/tastes.

IMHO, it's about how proportionate a watch looks on the wrist, e.g., the DD40 suits your 7" wrist very well (showing a few bracelet links on both sides, when viewed upfront) and a DD36 would wear similarly on my 6.25" wrist, maintaining the same aesthetics and proportions.

I think that DD36 looks better on the OP.

And a pic of some of the women you surround yourself with if they look good in a 40mm watch?!

Unless a person has a remarkably strange shaped wrist there is no way a 5.5” wrist can pull off a 44mm AP ROO. No chance. I have a 6.5” wrist and owned a 44mm AP ROO and it looked ridiculous on me. So did the Deep Sea 44mm.

I'm a fan of the 36mm Day-Date. Unless someone's wrist is truly too large for it, I prefer it to the 40mm Day-Date.

As mentioned by other respondents, I also wish the 36mm watch was equipped with Caliber 3255.

I think it depends on if you want to go with a more classic style (36) or the more current trend of bigger, Bigger, BIGGER. Although the 40 isn't that big at all. It looks nice on your wrist although in my opinion, the 36 does look a bit better on your wrist.

I think it depends on what you like, what you'll be happier with in 10 or 20 years (will you be kicking yourself one way or the other?), and what the rest of your collection looks like.

Dig the new 40's. Always like DJ and DD styling over the years, but everytime I bought one, I did not care for the size on my wrist. Much prefer the modern larger sizes.

The 40 looks great on you. Looks like you have other 40mm watches in your collection.

40 doesn't look big at all... Yeah.. you'll be in Las Vegas and a chic will be next to you rolling craps in her 40mm and you'll have to walk away with your 36mm on.

If rolling craps in Vegas, you'd be lucky to leave with anything on. They skin you alive!

If she's wearing a 40mm watch, she's probably not my "type" anyway.
