Ever just want to flip them all?

Lately I’ve become aware how homogenous my collection is (black subC, green subC, blnr and gmt C LN) basically the same watch four times over. It’s not that I don’t like or appreciate them, but on the wrist the difference between is quite small and it always feels like I’m wearing the same thing. Like I could just close my eyes and select one and it doesn’t matter.

I was thinking of keeping my GMT LN and consolidating the other three into a PM piece, likely a DD40.

Thoughts?

Keep the green sub or BLNR and flip the rest for the DD40

^^^Yup, you need a classic Rolex look with a fluted bezel. Too many sport watches will seem redundant. Think about it, now is the time you should sell a unneeded SS professional model with the hyper demand and a lot of PM models in the market. That is just maximizing your watch collection dollar.

Would be an outstanding combo for sure! PM is outstanding! Gotta ask yourself.....are you ok with only two choices ?? Since you’re used to more....
If so, DD and GMT C ....very nice

If your favourite is the LN, do exactly as you said. The pitfall I fell into with this hobby is buying what everyone else says they like and then ending up having to flip it because I myself couldn't fall for it.

Never. I'm a buyer, not a flipper or a seller.

I think I would keep the LV, BLNR and then add the DD. Plenty of variation and a nice trio to rotate through.

I know what you mean, but I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer. A couple of years ago I “consolidated”....sold 3 of my 6 and bought one pm (WG Pepsi).

Now it’s slowly creeping up again, and I’ll soon be back at 6.

if you don't need the money, put them in a safe and flip 40 yrs down the road, when they are vintage but in pristine condition.

This is one of the main reasons I will always have other brands in my collection and branch out.

It is pretty easy to end up thinking this way, in my mind.

An all Rolex collection -to me — QUICKLY becomes redundant - and lacks variability. This is why there’s always room for AP, Patek, Lange, Jaeger, etc.

Diversity in a watch collection and rotation - again - to me — is a must. As well as various references. I don’t think a collection should be made up entirely of sports models.

I LOVE wearing a dress watch from time to time — SUCH a nice change of pace — in particular the 5396.

Just my .02

Same here, the ceramic Rolexes are all pretty similar so having 1/2 SS is enough for me and I'd rather have PP, AP, BP and others.

I almost went ahead with a consolation and then realised I enjoy having the options and variety even within Rolex.

As a compromise to myself I have decided to pause any Rolex purchases and look at other brands for the next few watches.

Some of your pieces may be hard to buy back if you change your mind so I wouldn’t rush into anything.

It seems like a bit of an overreaction. You obviously like the modern Submariner template, since you have bought it 4x. Maybe keep 1 Sub and 1 GMT (either Sub LV/GMT LN, or Sub NR/BLNR), and add the DD when you feel ready.

Or consider an endgame of 1 steel Sub/GMT, 1 two-tone Sub/GMT, and 1 DD.

It's all a matter of personal preference, but I agree with your basic premise – if I had 4 watches of this caliber I'd want more variety than you have now.

It crosses my mind all the time. Keep a submariner or BLNR and put everything else towards PT DD or Daytona.

i have a DD40 YG, wonderful watch, sporty and elegant at the same time. i had BLNR, hulk, SD43 and sold the hulk (after a week) and the SD43 after two months. after all, they are all the same watches (more or less) with different colored bezels around them. keep your favorite professional model, that is enough. no need to have more of the same IMHO (will get flamed for this:::))).

There is a strong argument that one sport and one PM Rolex is all you need. I have the two below. Been seriously thinking of flipping my 116613lb for something from a different brand. My 114060 and 18238 cover it all really.

I feel the same..exp 39mm, batman, and hulk. Fundamentally the same watches, just slight differences. A part of me wants to sell two of them, get other watches that look really good but are terrible come resale.

I say if funds allow, get the dd40, and start selling the others once you are convinced that the dd40 is what you really want..think about it well first too, at the dd40 price point there are plenty of alternatives.

Once upon a time people bought the watches they actually liked on their wrist, the one they liked to stare at. And even about six years ago people would own one or two Rolex.
Now people get the same watch in three colors even, and keep watches just because they are the popular ones or the ones that are seen as "investments".

Imo, you have some redundant pieces and while there's nothing wrong with it a pm watch is always more special than a ss watch. While there is definitely a visual pleasure, a pm watch also gives a "feeling" pleasure a ss can't provide.

I would happily move a few of yours for pm Day Date and I would only keep the one I liked and used. In your case I would keep the BLNR. It would give me a black dial, useful gmt function and just enough color on the bezel to make me smile.

I have always thought most Rolex's look the same, especially the ones you noted. I went on a tear of buying several against my better judgement and now back down to BLNR/Hulk/DJII. Seriously considering selling the BLNR now and only having 2 of them along with other makers.
