Do anyone buy the Rolex Cellin?

I have never seen a Rolex Cellin out in the wild, and almost never on this forum either it seems like it is 1 in a million at least. I know Obama has one, but I think that was just an unfortunate mistake he ended up with one.

So just out of curiosity I wonder why do so few buy the Rolex Cellin, in my mind you do not get a more dressier Rolex then the Cellin line. Please share why you think so few buy one. Also if you got one and got photos share them too

I know why I do not buy one or anything similar. I use my watches 24/7, I want them all to be every day beaters and tool watches. Something every Rolex other then the Cellin line is in my mind.

Cellini

I have never seen a Cellin or Cellini in the wild. But I find it attractive.

I prefer my Patek Calatrava to the Rolex.

For some reason, I assume the rise of casual dress at work and at most social events, men’s dress watches are less popular than sports watches.

I have an old Cellini that belonged to a family member. I’m not a big fan but keep it for the sentiment. I do like the new Cellini models, there are just several watches on my list to obtain before I think about purchasing one.

I don't think I've ever seen one in the wild, either. I'm sure people buy them, but perhaps after they've purchased a Sub or GMT or similar. I think at the price of the Cellini, there's other brands that offer a similar "dressy" watch that looks nicer. Or is just plain different. (Sometimes a collection of only Rolex can get a little boring, dare I say...)

I wish Rolex would bring back the 6062 in some variant. Cellini line is pleasant, but for dress watches I feel inclined to V.C. and PP ... Unless if Rolex would bring back the 6062.

I looked up and liked the 6062. Bet it goes for a healthy chunk of change in the vintage market.

I also like JLC’s offerings in the dress watch market. Reverso, MUT Moon, etc.

A 6062 variant was the most expensive Rolex to my knowledge prior to the PN PND. The 6062 bao dai went for 5MM ... And people thought the 116500 was marked up!

Whilst buying my SubC with at an AD 2 years ago, I saw in a showcase under the beam of a spotlight a Cellini Prince in rose gold, giving a marvellous contrast to the black lizard(?) skin strap.
Quite magnificent!
For me it had style and in a class at a different level to a SubC and it’s ilk!
It changed my opinion of the Cellini watch completely!

Unfortunate mistake? What does this mean?

I dig the Cellini line, and I would really enjoy the Cellini Time in rose gold with a white dial. I also like it in white gold with a black dial. Maybe I need two of them!

Yes the 6062 looked great. I hope they bring it back in the oyster case and jubilee bracelet, but the dial complication would fit perfect in a Cellini case too.

It was meant as a joke because he is the only one I ever seen with a Cellini so it could not be on purpose. Maybe he was buying a sub and they sent him a Cellini

Cellini pre owned are very good value imho.
A platinum Rolex for £7k or the Rolex prince around the same price. The prince is a great watch at that price, not sure they would be as good value new as you should have considered the trinity at that price.
I have seen most models in the wild, never a Cellini though.

I looked up the prince and it looked amazing. I could definitely buy one of these as a special occasion watch.

I took a watchmaking class offered by the Horological Society of NY in June, and the instructors were from the RSC. One of the guys was wearing this Cellini, and it looked awesome.
(Photo from the interwebs)

I’d definitely consider rocking one of these.

I like the Cellini and the new(ish) automatic movements in them are supposed to be bullet proof like the sports models. But like previously mentioned there are other sports models I'd buy first. If they retailed for $3,000 to $5,000 less they'd be on a lot more wrists, other better options for less or same money are out there.

i was at a lunch at Rolex UK in june and some guy that was there too had a RG one on. It was pretty nice but for a dress watch i would never buy one as there are too many brands that do that segment much better.

I think a Patek Calatrava is a nicer dress watch at a similar price point.

I have one and love it. While I agree that there are other brands that do traditional dress watches better, this one really struck me and is even better in person. I would probably put this one outside the true dress watch category due to its thickness and moonphase. At the right price I like the new Cellini line, especially the moonphase.

Looks very nice, and I agree with you the moonphase is the most beautiful of today's Cellini line.

I love the Cellini line. Have a client that has one of the modern versions in RG, it's gorgeous. Too bad they don't sell as well, agree in that if they were 3-5k less they would probably sell better.

Curiously, if it didn't say Rolex, perhaps VC or JLC or Lange, would they sell better?

I don't think VC, JLC, Lange, Patek, etc. would make a watch like the Cellini because these brands focus on movement finishing and all feature at least some degree of hand polishing (JLC to a small degree and Lange to a large degree).

I really do like the looks of the current Cellini Moonphase but it, like all the Cellinis, is priced pretty proudly and dealers won't discount them much compared to other brands and yet resale value is poor. The discontinued Prince line is quite nice, even if their slight chunkiness diminished their elegance to a small degree, and they did feature a nice looking handwind movement behind a display back. I don't think they sold well but they are nice looking watches that look somewhat different from most other dress watches.

My mother owns a couple older ladies' Celinis but no, I never bought one and don't have any interest.

Have five Rolex sports watches but for formal dress wear JLC Ultra Thin Date w/silver face and black leather strap.
