Duplicates?? Anyone Else Have a Problem?

My wife says I have a problem. Often times, if it is a watch that I really like........I try and buy a backup. I guess in retrospect, this has been to my benefit. I would be lying if I said that I didn't own other duplicates.....Subs and SDs primarily, but also GMTs.

Anyone else suffering from this affliction?

Not sure I agree. You’re basically a half-black colored bezel away from having 3 extremely similar looking watches, where in fact from a few feet away look the same. The Hulk, no question is much different.

My brother and I had a discussion this week. Which would you rather have:

Option 1 Black Sub + Batman (or Pepsi)
Or
Option 2 Black GMT + Hulk

He picked option 2 and I picked option 1. I think you win with picking all of the above!

Jason, I hear you...but I went in a different direction. I went the reference route, Sub ref # 5513, 1680R, 1680W, 16800, 168000, 16610, 16610LV, 16613, 16600, GMT ref # 1675, 16700, 16760, 16710, 116710, 16750. But I do hear all the time that my collection looks the same. Really doesn't bother me, because I know what I like.

Most of the "sane" people I know think I have a problem by having spent so much money on a watch.

If they only knew...

I know the dilemma. I have multiple versions of the “same” watch - I.E. 16610LV and an 114060 or three different Planet Ocean models. Nothing wrong with buying and enjoying what you like!

Hey Jason, I feel like that too. Currently in the Rolex collection I have a hulk and BLNR. Really like the SD43, but feel that may be redundant...

I like a bit of variety.

I can see buying a couple of the same models if I planned to give them away to family members.

Unless it's an investment, isn't buying multiples of the same watch just a waste of money?

T-shirts yes, watches no. Too boring and redundant owning same watches as backup. Maybe if second watch is an investment.

No

I cannot see how this is a wise use of funds. I barely have time to wear what I own, I would never want a duplicate piece of jewelry that just sat.

I have often pondered having duplicates of my favorite reference, namely if I found a good deal on another 16600.

I don't see the point of having duplicate watches and I can't afford it.

It’s only a problem if you suffer with it. If you enjoy every minute of the condition then it’s no problem at all. :)

No, I try to keep madness in the realm of possible curability. Presented with the opportunity to buy a second SD43 from another AD, I decided to decline although temptation was strong.

No criticism from me on this. I do this when I find good shoes that I like. I have a multiple pairs of the same Shell Cordovan loafers from Crocket & Jones and from Alden.

People are free to do as they wish

Shoes wear out, cost far less and change with fashion trends.

Multiple identical cars? Multiple identical iPhones?

Sorry I don't understand

So what is the point of duplicates? I have four, all different. Can't imagine even having a Sub and an SD43.
