WG Sky D 326939 destiny

Hi to everyone.
I would appreciate collective knowledge on the subject. What would be the destiny of 326939? And why was it discontinued by Rolex? How relaible was it explained with the SS 326934 introduction? Is it possible that we may expect a new white PM novelty in the near future, perhaps even platinum one?

Not sure why it was discontinued. Common perception is white dial and black dial 326934s are too similar to the 326939s. But, I'm not convinced, since there are many major aesthetic differences between the dials (numeral vs. baton, color of GMT ring, actual shade of the dial, size of month indicator, circular vs. radial symmetry etc. etc.).

It seems to me that the numeral dials are not coming back very soon. Going forward, it'll be baton dials only. Even if they bring back 326939s, they'll be with batons, and some very different dial, perhaps meteorite.

Platinum is unlikely in the short-term, IMO, because they generally reserve it for more historical models such as day-date and daytona.

Not sure about its destiny. I have the 326939 ivory dial, and did think about selling it before Basel 2018. Now I am not too sure. Still love it a lot.

I think that ivory dial is the best dial on the Sky D. I'm not big fan of those romans used on other dials, but on the SkyDweller it works so well. The mix of ivory dial, white sub dial ring, and shiny wg romans, all work together beautifully

That's a great watch, I love the annual calendar complication. If it were in my collection it would be one of the very last pieces I let go of.

May I ask why you were considering selling? Does the larger size bother you at all?

Thank-you for your comment. I thought about selling when the ss ones came out. Wg is nice, but I was not sure if it is 4x nice, as the msrp suggests lol :-)

But, as you said, it is a very beautiful watch and has a lot of charm, so I didn't put it up for sale.

It is a big watch for sure, but since it is very comfortable on the wrist I don't mind it at all. The only thing is it is a bit dressy, due to the fluted bezel ... bit hard to dress down.

I don't like the baton dial SkyD.

Ivory dial with roman numerals is gorgeous and it fits you perfectly. What is the size of your wrist? 6.5? Or more? Yet I did not find any reasonable explanation why was it taken out of production. Introduction of 934 surely eaten a part of its share but still SkyD is a differnet league in PM and undoubtfully in years to come there would be many who would prefer buying it in PM. The only reasonable explantion to me is because they will introduce it in Platinum.

Even if Rolex is making one in Pt there should be no need to remove the WG version. They coexist quite nicely in the DD and Daytona line up.

The WG SkyD is very beautiful, as to why Rolex does what it does we will never know. Mere speculating

Sounds reasonable. Sooner than later it will unveil itself as to why did Rolex discontinue 326939.

Thanks! My wrist is only 6" :-) However, the top part is flat and ~ 50cm in width, which is roughly the lug-to-lug width of the sky-d, so it sits very comfortably. I'm also curious to see what Rolex does with pm sky-d in the future.

More than welcome! As of my wishful thinking Rolex has myriads of options with Sky D in PM. Hype is there, 934 did well and now SkyD is a reputable family member. Rolex may start experimenting with different PM and dials as well. I would be delighted to see something close as a concept to Platona, ice blue dial with baguettes. But who am I to know that? Might be preparing themselves for the 10th anniversary?
