I had put out a WTB post he responded to me personally and had references from this forum and another so I thought it prudent after having had my $$$ for over a week blocking my phone and not returning emails as this is an environment I do so love and appreciate that I should let the folks know. That's all.

Thanks guys

My WTB ad was on TZ. His reference was over here. Also one reference over there.

and I always go by my real name for search purposes.

Thank you.

Sorry to hear it. Did you vet his references from here? Are they known people? Will you share their names here so that future users might be aware of this references?

The one fellow was real on here and was genuinely concerned when I told him. The other fellow hasn't responded.

Ugh. Entirely my fault I should have asked more questions.

Sucks, real sorry. Do you have any additional information to try and out the lowlife?

You have a phone number and address on this guy? Did his bank account match his name (to me, this is always one of the biggest red flags)? You have any more information on him? Do you know if that is his real name?

Curious, did you Facetime or talk on the phone with him before buying and run a check on the phone number to make sure it was legit?

I had checked his info did some internet searching etc. I should have been more diligent. His conversations with me were not any different than anyone here would have used. I have collected a long time. I've become more active lately and as we all do evaluate our collections from time to time I've been thinking of different things. This won't deter me and since I do have his bank info and a few friends in Federal places depending if he's real or not we could make his life unpleasant maybe.

Thank you guys for the concern.

JL

I've seen other negative posts on that guy on this site somewhere. Can't put my hands on it now, but definitely remember the email with dalucifer in it.

Yeah, Dalucifer responded to my WTB ad on TRF a week or so ago. Caught him in a lie, and then posted about him in this section. So sorry to hear that happened to you...hopefully you can get your funds back...

Note also that he uses different first and last names. In the deal I was working with him, his name was Julian Davis. He even doctored a US passport to try and prove his identity to me.

Again more of the same sorry but stick to well known established sellers or ADs and this doesn't happen. I hope he gets caught but hopefully this serves as a lesson to all. Don't do WTB ads and if you do expect that 99.9% of people who respond will be scammers. I have posted these warning for years and sadly many take excessive risk to save a few dollars when in the end it costs them a lot more!

Scammers sometimes 'hack' or 'simulate' well known members accounts...it happened to me once but I got my money back on a smaller watch purchase non-Rolex a year or so ago. The guy used TRF user here as a reference but his WUS username had an extra digit at the end.

I will note, it's almost ALWAYS a response to a WTB ad. Thats a well known scammer tactic as it leaves no 'public' postings to trace.

I think this is what happened, but I am not really sure. I reach out to the OP. Whoever Joseph Lawrence is, tried to scam another person on the forum. I reach out to that person as well.

Is [email protected] your email? Scammers usually take the username of the person theyre claiming to be and just add numbers to the end of it....like this one.

Ask these people what username they were using to claim they were 'you'. Chances are it's similar but you wouldnt have usernames on those forums, or if you did that wasnt your account.

They also use doctored/photoshopped UK passports with the same guy's photo on it, but I geuss it could be any photo ID they edit.

That is not my email address. My email address is a combo of my initials and last name. I do not use gmail either. I am California based and offered to help file a police report for OP.

Yep, fits the bill of a scammer...took your TRF username and added a few digits.

I wish there wasn’t a WTB section. It seems like most scams happen from there. I feel terrible for OP.

You should contact mods in case they ban you?
