Is this SS Daytona real?
I saw this SS Daytona White at a local watch repair store who just fixes watches and he told me that he has no box or papers to go with it but is willing to sell it to me for $3,000. Is that a good price? I don’t know what year is this Daytona. Anyone know?

Looks to be pretty heavily polished. Those lugs are pretty round.

Here is the way you need to handle watch pricing for the rest of your watch buying days. If you see a watch that someone could list on eBay and make conservatively 3.5x the price they are willing to sell it to you for, its sketchy and run.

you're in NY, I'd ask him if he'd allow you to bring it to RSC to get a service estimate, to make sure everything with the watch checks out. If rolex comes back with the estimate you're good to go at a steal of a price. If rolex comes back and tells you there's a problem with the watch... well, there's a problem with the watch.

The suspicious part is if this is a watch store, why would they be selling it so far under value. It's not like they don't have the means to quickly establish a rough range of value.

They still have to know approximate value. I'd be concerned you may be taking on a questionable item. Just my $0.02
Maybe as a next step in step in diligence, ask to see the movement and check lugs for serial # and reference #. If the store is reputable and offers a return policy, it may be worth check with RSC for validation and to ensure it wasn't reported as a stolen item. Good luck in whatever you decide. |

Yup this is why I took a picture and asking for advice. $3000 is still a lot of money but it’s a killing if it’s a fake. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

$3,000 for a SS Daytona. If that doesn't raise a red flag....

If he's a repair shop, have him pop off the caseback and snap some pics of the movement.
To believe a repair shop in NYC doesn't know the value of a 6 digit Daytona, you're only fooling yourself.

Seems suspicious to me. That exact watch (with box and papers) seems to be commanding a price of $15-16K currently.

That's a $12,000 watch or more. Even watch repair shops that usually work with Seikos and Timex knows how much a Daytona is worth. The only way he'd tell you $3000 is if it's fake. The proportions of it look a bit off to me as well. I'm sure there's an AD within a few blocks, just see if he'll walk it there with you. If he won't let it leave the store, then leave it at the store. It's not worth it.

If you really wanted protection you could charge it to your CC. If it’s fake or stolen let them do the leg work for you. You will get a refund but it might take a little time. To me it would be worth it to go this route if you genuinely thought it was legit. Best case you got a SS Daytona for 3k. Worst case it’s fake or stolen you get your money back. Just make sure on the receipt it says the Rolex is 100 percent authentic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Rolex are the easiest and most consistent watches to be able to find the value of. No way he doesn't know what that watch is worth if real.
