Best used Rolex bang for the buck?

As with most of us, I am constantly considering my next purchase. The business-minded side of me says look for a value buy, don't pay retail, etc., etc. As well all know this has become very difficult. I am not married to any particular watch, I do want a two-tone, not ready for a solid gold timepiece yet.

The more I look I keep coming across YM that seems to pack a lot of value. I happen to like the watch and I am surprised it doesn't get more love. It even showed up quite a bit on a thread within the last week as most unlikely to buy quite often.

Can anyone shed some light on the dislike for the YM, and also what are some watches you guys consider to still have some value on the secondary market?

Thanks!

I can only speak for myself.

I do not like the look and have no need for the complications.

I buy watches to own and wear and enjoy so this one would not meet any of those criteria, at any price.

YMs seem to be the only SS sports pieces available in the UK ADs. Personally, I think the Rhodium dial version is a stunner. The turquoise may not suit all tastes but it's a beauty to my mind...

Typically TT models can be had for a fair sum in the second hand market, especially the YM. Would be a good choice.

If this includes vintage, definitely a 36mm solid gold day date on a strap. Great examples are available for 6.5-8k, which is pretty amazing value for what you get.

36 mm Datejusts are a pretty good value IMO.

Lots of people don't know what they are missing, YM is like an upgraded Submariner, twice as comfortable, nice Pt bezel and much mote luxurious looking imho.
My older 5 digit 16622 on a jubilee

I love it, feel free to send me a PM. I was planning on this being a 45th bday present in March, but you never know!

Unless you're lucky any savings made when purchasing a watch will be likewise passed on to the next owner when and if you sell. Buying a less desirable Rolex leaves you holding a watch that is less desirable. Now if you know that the watch is your grail it makes no difference. Just be prepared to live with it. The Pt YM has always been one of my favorites but so far I've not bought one and likely will not.

16570 is the best pro model deal out there in most cases. Love the YM but the bezel drove me nuts.

Get a datejust 2 with fluted bezel. Used prices are great an it's the most noticeable rolex for the money.

1601 and 1603 can’t be had in the mid 2s. That’s a lot of watch for that kinda coin IMO

16570 black dial can be had for $4300 or so on a good day and $4500 pretty regularly. Pretty good starter Watch if you ask me

Was going to add the 16610 but really the price they're going for doesn't fit best watch for the buck.

The YM is the least expensive Rolex to have Platinum. As others have said it is a very comfortable watch and is same movement as a submariner but to me much nicer, not a me too watch. I have a TT sub., YM Rhodium dial/Miami blue second hand and writing on the dial and a Rose Gold Daytona C on a strap and a Breitling. The YM gets most of the wrist time just do to shear comfort. I really like the picture above the YM on a jubilee bracelet and would love to find out to fit one ?

Well said, I stopped by the local AD today and they had a platinum/blue dial stainless and a TT chocolate dial. I have to say the choc dial is impressive in person. I am holding out for the exact one I want, but I would be okay with either one I tried on today.
