Should I Be Disappointed?

When you take your watch to an AD to get serviced. Do you expect to receive the watch back after the service set to the correct time, day and date?

I recently took my Seiko to my local Rolex AD, because I want to build a relationship with them to get the movement serviced. It’s not an expensive watch. It was my Dad’s and I wear it every day so it’s valuable to me. But when I went in to pick it up the time, date and day was not set. The watch has a quick date set but the day display you have to spin the hands forward until you get to the correct day. I only had to advance it less then 12 hours to correct it but.

I bet if I had purchased an expensive watch from them it would be set.

What do you think?

Disappointed that it wasn’t set? Negative.

Well, it's a far sight better than having a Rolex serviced and getting it back with the date change occurring at 9:30 and not midnight like it should.

Ridiculous thread...bet it took you longer to post this than it would have taken to wind up your watch.

Oh, ok. I guess I’m making to much of it then.

I just think it’s good customer service to set the watch before returning it back to the customer.

Every time I change a battery for a customer I set it. They tend to appreciate it. "Oh you even set the time and date!"

You might be right, I don’t know. Never had a watch serviced.

I enjoy setting mine though, so idk haha

Indicative of a near total lack of attention to detail that is sure to ruin the customer service experience. jk, however, I would notice; but I'd also be glad to set it myself and make sure that it sets and winds properly.

So if you take your car in for service do you expect them to reset the tripmeter?

But back to the thread. Did you request them to do it? I could care less. And I'm sure most others wouldn't care so they probably didn't think twice about it. Could be days or weeks before someone comes get their watch. I don't expect them to know when I'm coming in for them to set the time date. I would be more concerned if a service was performed correctly. Also would rather them give me a discount or freebies on next purchase than to set the time on a watch when I can do it myself.

It wouldn’t bother me whatsoever. You bought a mechanical watch so manually setting the date and time comes along with that. Don’t expect the AD to do anything other than what you pay them for.

Not to stir the pot, but did they actually "service" the movement, as in complete disassembly, clean, replace necessary parts, adjust, etc. or did they just replace the whole movement? Seiko movements are inexpensive, generally speaking.

Ok, lets say the watchmaker set and wound the watch when he/she was done servicing it. Then, it sat around for a week awaiting your arrival to pick it up and the power reserve ran out. Was somebody supposed to wind it every morning or wear it around all day to ensure that it was set and wound when Your Highness came to get it?

Massive over-reaction IMO.

I for one, would write a strongly worded letter the Hans Wilsdorf foundation and express my deep disappointment and dissatisfaction with their lack of attention to detail!

If it's any consolation, when you buy a watch from David SW, he always makes sure the time and date are set perfectly.

So...buy more watches.

Was the AD wearing white Rolex gloves when handling your watch? No glove, no love as that's a deal breaker for me. <sarc>

This makes no sense. Why should they set your watch? If they did, you pick it up a week later, it would still be dead.

And developing a relationship with a Rolex AD by having them servicing your Seiko might not get you very far...

I do understand/respect that the watch is important and valuable to you, and kudos for taking good care of it.
