Big surprise outside my front door!

We had a visitor roaming around the neighborhood yesterday morning...

We have a townhome in Winter Park, Colorado and moose sightings are now actually common. I saw three while riding last weekend and two just this morning.

The pictures were taken at a safe distance and quick access to a door. I’m neither brave nor stupid.

Last weekend, on the other hand was a bit scary as I stopped on the trail as one big bull crossed 15-20 feet in front of me. I judiciously placed myself behind a few trees while waiting for him to amble away. When that was not happening, I turned my bike around to ride home the long way and about soiled myself to find another, smaller, bull had come up about 25 feet behind me without me even hearing him. It is amazing how stealthy these monstrously large crittes can be.

Wow. That’s super scary.

Might be a sign to stay indoors.

These big fellas cover a lot of ground and urban sprawl has moved into their territory. Have a feeling OP will see more and more of them.

They are definitely not ones to mess with. Smart to retreat.

Would love to have them around where we live. Such majestic (and huge) animals.

They don’t taste as good as their hide feels in moccasins.

Uhhh...serious error...not PC...but true.

I am glad that you, your bike and your Rolex were unharmed in making those images. I have run with deer in Minnesota once, but nothing like the size of those monsters.

Don’t know about the moccasins, but I had a moose pot roast when I lived in British Columbia that was delicious.

Out of town holiday developments are responsible for wild life behaving in this manner, it’s you and your elk that is to blame.

Do you think the moose was looking for his elk?

There's a lesson to be learned here. Don't keep elk in Colorado, they attract moose.

Don't even have to go hunting, it's right there!
And like Mon said, moose is delicious if prepared correctly (goes for anything, really).

I must modify my comments then -

They feel even better than they taste.

That's a big moose. Pushing 60" if not bigger. Trophy.
Best tasting meat of all the wild game, think many. It's delicious.

You say you pulled open the door and got a hell of a surprise, are you sure it wasn’t a cariboooh. If it bit you and drank your blood it was more than certainly a mosquito.
