ADs sales tactics or politics
I was in market for BLNR about 4-5 months ago and have put myself on list at few ADs in 50 miles radius. Since then I have purchased BLNR.
Yesterday, coincidently or not, I get an email from 2 different ADs letting me know they didn’t forget about me and BLNR - they have not received a single piece since I reached out to them, and they don’t know when they will. However if I would like to check our different Rolex or see their jewelry selection, they’d be more than happy to help. I did let both know I already got BLNR and no longer in market for one. Afterwards got me thinking – did they really not get any BLNR in last 4-5 months? 2 different ADs? I don’t think so. AD where I got mine got 2 pieces within few weeks but was upfront with me when I will get mine bc I wasn’t first one on the list. this is just another example of how ADs are using sales tactics, or politics, trying to boost their business via waiting lists for Rolex SS hard to get pieces. ADs are making you believe they are more than willing to sell it to you and next one is yours but it’s not their fault – Rolex is not delivering. Yeeeeeaaaaah right, we all know there’s no truth to this |

I was 'next' on a list at Patek for around 6-12 months for a watch, I was then looking at another watch with them, to sweeten the deal they said they'd make sure I get the next one that comes in of the watch I was waiting for... I did not go for it.

Every AD is a different business, run by different people. Of course some ADs do this. And of course some ADs follow their list religiously. And some ADs put new models out and let someone get very lucky. And some ADs will only sell to you if you do the Macarena.

Hopefully these AD tactics don't sour the watch owning experience

My takecaway is, why didn't you call them and say you got one and didn't need to be on their list(s)?

here in states (and probably rest of the world) to get a hard to find SS watch, you need to visit/call/email multiple ADs and get on their lists, in hope someone will call you. I probably visited/called over 20 ADs and invested hours and hours, when I was looking for my BLNR, and I got it. was very happy to get before my bday and search is over. Do you really think I would take time of my day to call back each AD to get me off the list? its been 4-5 months and noone has reached out to me, other than 2 I included in this thread which were more looking for purchases other than what I needed at time |

I have long term relationships with two local AD’s and both are adamant about the scarcity of desirable sport models. In many ways they are as much in the dark as their customers concerning when new sport models will show up or (most importantly) when they will actually arrive. Neither one has waiting lists but admit they try to take care of long term (big spending) customers first. I’m also assuming that they are very concerned about the upcoming holiday season and hoping that the mother lode shows up beforehand. They aren’t optimistic. I know there are AD’s out there who may engage in questionable practices, but I trust my local guys; there really is a shortage and they really don’t know what to expect day to day.

Every time an AD says a wait-list is years long, it's partly because folks put themselves on more than one list, buy the watch, and then don't take themselves off the other lists. Are they lazy? Are they thinking that if a watch appears, they'll buy it again and flip it?
I dunno. Hard to get too annoyed with AD list behavior when buyer list behavior is often just as dodgy. |

no win situation for an AD. THEY follow up and its some ulterior motive. THEY dont follow up and they dont care
At a minimum they probably wont tell you if a watch went to another more important customer, but the fact they are saying they are aware you are still waiting shows some level of professionalism IMO

AD's get a lot of crap around here but they are far more stand up and straightforwardly honest than the vast majority of people seeking hot watches. Someone made a spreadsheet once to get on AD lists at every AD in the country. I think it was Patek but still. Massive waste of everyones time. And you know full well if they got the watch they would still buy every one they eventually got offered from all the other lists, as its flippable. even in this thread... people expect the upmost professionalism from their AD, but if they dont need the watch anymore for whatever reason what happens? They dont do anything and continue to clog up the list. Thats just rude.

You cannot believe everything an AD says as it will mainly be to benefit them or their position. In terms of the blnr, I would say it depends on the size of the AD, but receiving none in the last 4-5 months seem off.

It’s a game! They control the rules and we have one of two options. Play the game by their rules or quit and pick a different hobby
The expectations with ADs is having no expectations Some are very honest and will display whatever they have and others are worse than thugs and everything in between To be fair and honest as well, many of us will put their name on MANY lists and imagine if ADs go by those lists giving their top pick watches to out of town non-repeat customers or for it to end on the grey market Now don’t get me wrong I’m not defending their practice and I’m not saying flipping a watch is wrong (I’ve done it myself) but what I’m saying is that it’s a game that they unfortunately control the rules of and we just have to choose if we are in or out!!

It appears that OP has bought at least 2 BLNRs. There was an incoming thread June 9th. Then on the 24th he listed one that was dated the 22nd.
Again, looks like we have another situation of whining about the list when the OP is buying just to flip, and no wonder he is still on all of these lists. Zero sympathy from me. |

You are implying the AD is being shady to steer you to other models, yet you are probably not telling them "I want a watch at retail so I can sell it for more". Its quite the double standard.

So why wouldn't an AD just sell direct to the gray market. They are unable to sell via internet so sell to someone that can. If their goal is to sell watches, then this seems to be how they could maximize sales.
