Thoughts on these vintage subs (tiffany sub?)

Hi guys,

A local enthusiast has these two watches for sale, and I was wondering what everyone's thoughts on them were?

The first appears to be a 1969 red sub , with what appears to be a mark V (?) Tiffany dial. I honestly don't have an experience or knowledge on these, and know they can be a mine field, but wanted the collective forums advice. Most of my info has come from a brief look on the DRSD site, but plan to do some more digging tonight. Could this be legit? (see edit - I don't think it is on doing some research)

Not sure on the bezel insert and the case seems heavily polished, are are these earlier subs thinner?

Red submariner

The second appears to be a 1977 1680. Again not too much knowledge on these. Case is a little thicker than the red sub. Both bracelets are older 93150's

1680 1977

The seller has some interest in my pieces, so if I like them and they appear legit I could do a trade.

Would really appreciate everyone's thoughts!

Edit: Actually on second look on my PC, it appears the "Tiffany & Co" could be too perfect. The ones i am looking at online are a bit less precise, and the O is always lower case. Also the hands look off? - And i'm having a hard time matching the upper font, as the serifs appear to go downward, and none of the examples on DRSD have this, so i'm thinking a replica or reprinted dial?

The Tiffany one is a no go IMHO. Unless the provenance is there-papers, receipt... it can not be proven authentic.

The 1680 is filthy but fine.

I suggest being a little more clear on the trade terms so you can get some opinions...

The red sub dial is fake to begin with. Don’t even consider doing anything with someone offering that.

Thanks guys!

Much appreciated!

The seller had some nice modern rolexes to, so am not sure if he just doesn't know, or is malicious.

In regards to trades, he was very interested in a 1966 seamaster 300 I had on, and also my coke 16710. I may be able to trade one for the 1680. But after the above advice I may steer clear, or be very cautious.

If someone would trade those two watches for a real Tiffany red sub he knows it’s fake to and wants to get rid of it

Oh yea I know! I meant the later, and better looking white 1680 for one of them. I think I'm just going to steer clear :)

I had purchased the Red 1680 Submariner above on Ebay. The watch has a fake dial, this has been confirmed by a reputable Rolex independent service professional in Melbourne. The seller was then contacted and informed that it was a fake. He attempted to lower the price substantial so he could persuade me to keep it. However, eventually he said that he would issue a refund if the item was sent back. I sent the item back and then he stopped responding and now I have to take further action through Paypal to recoup the funds. The worst part of it all is that after all this the seller has put the watch back on Ebay to sell to another innocent purchaser even though he was been advised that the watch is fake. Do not deal with this fraudster and stay clear from this watch at all costs.

Sorry to hear about your situation. The seller has a history of selling questionable items but just doesn't care. Keep us posted on the refund situation. I hope it all works out

This is what I was trying to establish in my thread. Instead I was flamed. The watches most substantial parts, dial, handset, bezel are fake. Sorry this happened to you. Yes the seller is basically a crook.

The sellers name is darius witecki however I have no idea where he lives. The Express post satchel he sent me simply had his first name and nothing else in the senders box.

You will definitely get your money back, however we all need to avoid this seller in Australia from now onwards.

Tiffany and Cartier both lost their franchise about the same time, both co-branded and both sold similar numbers yet you see perhaps a 1000 to 1 Tiffany dials over Cartier. The reason is Cartier kept records of co-branded Rolex and Tiffany did not. If there is no original paperwork you would be foolish to pay one dime extra for a Tiffany dial.

The main issue here is that the dial is completely fake. Not that the Tiffany print is added.

Quite a few parts on this watch are authentic Rolex pieces however. It was only serviced by Rolex in 74, 96 and 02.
